No Dedicated Server support for PC Modern Warfare 2

John upon reading your reply I can understand your point now. I won’t rip you to shreds now (lol?). Being new to the PC gaming world maybe has fogged up your eyes to what we, as PC gamers, believe in. It’s understandable as people at work that play XBOX360 have no idea what we are fighting for.

It’s sad that IW has started thinking in this logic. I guess we just have to put up with it. Valve loves the modding community (yes I know SDKs have come out late, etc etc) and actually supports it by hiring on these people to create new and innovative games (RE: Portal and L4D). I wish IW had not strayed from this thinking.

As I said before modding and mapping sells games on PC. I guarantee that a lot of the PC sales came from people not even knowing about the lack of dedicated servers. My friends in-particular had already pre-ordered MW2 before I informed them of these issues and would not have bought it if they had known about them.

Regardless there are other games coming out to play with friends. I for one am looking forward to Left 4 Dead 2. It’s hybrid dedis/matchmaking is great. It’s actually a game that works well with that type of system. In my honest opinion MW2 is not the type of game that works well with matchmaking services.

I’ve been modding CoD since the release of vCoD (that’s about 6 years).

I remember the days when Grant Collier showed his respect towards the modding / PC community (the community that made the game big in the first place) but yeah now they got some new guy in charge and all he cares about is money. Consoles are the best way to go considering pretty much every 12 year old has one and loves to play CoD.

With no modtools they can wait several months until people get bored, then release some new maps for 10 bucks.

I know this has been said before, but Valve is the perfect model for how PC developers should be like. If more developers were like Valve, I probably wouldn’t be preaching about how PC gaming is dead (which is ironic because I just got into the platform.)

When everyone bitched about the matchmaking system in L4D1, guess what? They fixed it by adding dedicated servers. Fucking brilliant? Or just common sense?
When the L4D2 Boycott erupted, they flew the founders over to Valve software to put them in their place. But they still took the credit for Valve’s future DLC plans, idiots.

And if I could point out a few other developers, Bioware and Bethesda supports PC gaming in a similar manner as Valve, even after they started supporting consoles. And when they screw over PC gamers (Mass Effect was an XBox 360 exclusive at one point) they do somthing awesome for them (for the PC port, they fixed the inventory system, made the elevator rides bearable, and made the first DLC free.)

IW is just using consoles as a scapegoat, and PC gamers bashing consoles because of it is just showing IW that their scapegoat is working. No. It’s IW’s fault for being lazy pricks and Activision’s fault for being greedy.

Now, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy MW2. Seriously, dedicated servers or no dedicated servers, it’s still one of the most addicting multiplayer games ever (and this is coming from someone who HATED Call of Duty 4 and 5.) But it still doesn’t excuse IW.
Yeah, I know. It’s like saying “You guys SUCK but I’ll buy your product because it’s AWESOME, but you still SUCK!”

But what IW and Activision hears is “Make some more please and work less on it this time”.

What’s this? Activision is planning on using the WoW business model? making you pay for the full game and a monthly description? Well I guess that’s all the proof we need.

Source?

It ain’t happening. 360 owners such as myself already have to pay $50 a year (fix’d) for no fucking reason other than Microsoft likes to wave their dicks in our faces. There’s no way we’re going to pay for another subscription to play a FPS game which can easily be replaced by another realistic FPS (ie Battlefield: Bad Company 2 looks awesome) or just one of the older CoD games (by then, MW2 would be considered “old.”) And since the 360 is pretty much 75% of their audience now, they’re not going to fuck with the money.

$50 a month? You can get 12 months for $45 or less.

I think he meant a year.

Fuck

FUCK YES.

Getting this nao!

Fuck yeah! in your face IW!

See IW. You’re team of paid programers can’t do somthing a few 33 year olds locked up in their parent’s basement could do.
But since there’s still no mod support, the dedicated server thing is pointless. And thus no reason to download the hack. And thus a reason to just shut the fuck up and play the damn game as it is.

I watched the video. Zero gravity? Infinite grenade spam (I thought that’s what we were FIGHTING for!) Shitty music? Does all this really improve your gaming experience at all?

Except it does have mods. I fail to see what you are saying.

Also lean is modded back.

Edit: cool edit bro.

Edit2:

So people who modify a game all are this stereotype, but as soon as they get paid for it they somehow become a normal person?

Hear that BM dev team?

Show me a custom map that’s worth giving a shit about.
Also, I never use lean in any game I play. I just don’t see the point unless it’s a stealth game. So I fail to see why it’s such a big deal.

Dude, it was a joke! I was actually aiming that joke at IW for being lazy compared to, well, “dedicated” hackers.

Error 404: humor not found. Joke not funny.

Try again.

So you have no comment about the lack of custom maps or how I don’t give a shit about leaning?

All this is going to do is possibly break IWnet and ruin multiplayer for everyone, including those that PURCHASED the game like everyone in a working society should. I don’t care if you don’t have a job. That’s YOUR problem/fault!

Leaning may not be useful to you but some people may want it too. You know, like other people, who have different wants and needs.

Can you even make custom maps for MW2? (hurr durr look at me im stupid i know)

Exactly.
I thought the only reason people wanted Dedicated Servers was to host mods and shit (which is understandable, because custom maps and gamemodes made “Counter-Strike: Source” SOOOO much better for me!)
If it isn’t that, then what is?

Ummm is that a yes? or a no?

I don’t see the reason that a company would refuse to support mods.

Neither do I, but for some reason IW didn’t support mods for MW2. Thus there’s no SDK for the MW2 engine. Thus there’s no custom maps. Thus there’s no reason to support dedicated servers since you can’t play on custom maps.

Really, at this point, all it is now is a browser. A retard, and that includes console-tards, can understand a browser. So there’s nothing “super awesome PC gaming hardcore” about it. And from unbiased user reviews (ie people who BOUGHT the game), the matchmaking system works very well and the majority of their game sessions had next to no lag.

Great, so now I’m back to not understanding why this is such a big deal.

Because PC players deserve everything handed to them on a silver platter.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
