:fffuuu: But seriously, do you really think they would go this far and not add better graphics? It would need better hardware to pull off a 3D effect in the first place. Previous rumors of a new DS, pointing to around the same time of announcement, have indicated it using an Nvidia Tegra 2. https://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2009/10/13/nvidia-tegra-wins-contract-for-next-gen-nintendo-ds.aspx
If this is the case, we can expect great graphical enhancements, allowing the “3DS” to render Wii levels of graphics (or better). A portable version of Unreal Engine 3 has been developed and showcased that could be played on an iPhone. This article showcases a screenshot of this engine in use on an iPhone, and later describes a demo that isn’t shown, that is played on 3 times the screen size of the iPhone and is powered by Nvidia Tegra 2. https://kotaku.com/5444554/hands+on-with-unreal-engine-on-the-iphone-nvidia-tegra
If the new DS does use this new tech, which seems very likely considering the 3D gimmick would require new hardware, then we can expect Wii levels of graphics at least. This is because the Nvidia Tegra 2 ship inside the 3DS was said to render the same scene, 3 times the size, with no hiccups. Meaning, on smaller screens, like the 3DS’, more graphicly detailed environments could be rendered then were shown. I think we can safely assume standard resolution, Gamecube graphics (at least) will be possible with this new hardware.
