I’ll Have what you’re Having.
Firstly, about the leader: I also think that Barney is a good candidate, but do you all remember that thing last year (I think) when it leaked that a well known character would return from HL1 and everyone thought it would be Shephard? (No, I don’t think so)
If that person is someone important, he/she might take the role as the new leader. Hell, it might even become Otis.
Secondly, about the mind thing seen in Ep1 and Ep2, it always happens when you are near, but out of reach, an Advisor, so I guess it’s just a defence mechanism to either weaken or scare away whoever is approaching before being able to eat them.
Thirdly, I used to think about the overlord before I read through this too, and now it seems clear to me that an overlord will not be seen. I do still think that Gordon will die in the end, though. I now imagine that you will either fight a lot of advisors or something else, maybe those bubble creatures… I think that you will be robbed from all of your weapons, a cutscene will show you lying in front of a crowbar in the end, Gordon’s HEVd hand picks it up, he stands up, raises the crowbar and runs towards the advisors or whatever. Either it ends there, or it ends with a tongue. Or a final G-Man scene.
Fourthly, since they put in a co-op thing in Portal 2, I think that there might, just might, be something similar in HL3. Maybe with Barney and Alyx, or Barney and Otis. If it happens, probably won’t, you might fight off/finish off the last of the combine somehow. I don’t really see how, but whatever.
Lastly, about all these you-will-get-a-portal-gun theories, (not seen here though) considering that they can only work on moon rock surfaces, it is nearly possible, but I don’t like the idea. If it actually does happen, they might use an old verision that needs to be recharged after usage in one of those combine airlocks used to overcharge the gravity gun. But my conclusion is that there probably will not be a portal gun in HL3.
I think that, if you don’t find out more about g-man and his “employers” before the end of HL3, the game will end with a final g-man scene.
2008? well the project could change !, i think the ugly hippie screenshot are fake.
Really? Even thoguh Valve employees confirmed them? Oh well…
He means Valve probably changed them by now (4 cunting years Valve).
Also, I think Gordon Freeman will be the next resistance leader or it will be Barney, Kleiner, Gordon, Magnusson and Alyx. Pretty sure it always was like that.
Or there will be no new leader and the whole resistance will fall into chaos forcing Gordon and Alyx to do whatever they must do as fast as possible. Personally, I think this is more interesting.
like having sex?
Good god. People on here going on about their silly theories as if there were legitimacy to them. We have ALMOST NO information on the sequel, jus about everything is a wild guess.
Otis is likely not canon and would probably feel pretty out of place in the HL2 and on universe. IMO he’d be an awful character to introduce.
Gordon dying would be a pretty shitty ending.
Gman is a nebulous entity without any even intended identity. I believe Valve’s done interviews about this and about how Gman represents the developers more than anything else. I doubt we’ll ever hear his back story.
Given the concept art, it’s unlikely HL3 takes place long after HL:EP2. The helicopter from the end of Ep2 is shown crashed in the concept art. Why would the crashed helicopter feature several years later? My guess is the concept artist just couldn’t draw Alyx’s face for shit. This is of course assuming that this concept art is remotely relevant.
The HL3/Ep3 argument has been beaten to death over and over. People just need to stfu about it. In the end it makes absolutely no difference, HL3/Ep3 will be whatever it’ll be and a name doesn’t change that.
As for whether or not the advisors mindfuck Gordon, nowhere near enough information to say either way.
And, as some others said, this is some underwhelming concept art. However I did quite like this version of Alyx:
There, my long ass post responding to all the earlier stuff in this thread.
I think it’s really funny though how people expect concept art to be under or overwhelming. It’s not even supposed to whelm at all.
It’s largely for developers to help plan the art style of the game. That doesn’t stop us from being over or underwhelmed.
But when you hear about new concept art & you get 5 variants of some meaningless space-squiggles, it’s pretty disappointing.
Usually some info can be taken from concept art. Be it monster designs, weapons, settings, etc. The only piece of information learned from this is xen might be back & that Alyx might wear Eli’s old vest. Everything else is pretty much old news.
To be fair, it is four year old concept art and it was intended for us to see it completely out of context.
I didn’t think we were intended to see it at all.
Personally I think that if Gordon gave up his life to save all of Earth or to finally stop Gman then it would be a noble and honorable way to die. Someone sacrificing their life doesn’t have to be a sad ending.
Gordon is too fucking badass to die. As long as the Gman is somehow besides Gordon there’s no way he could die. But what ever. Valve is probably baking an epic story behind this all.
Fuck honor & nobility. Sacrificing your own life is for people too stupid to find an alternative. Even then there are few things worth sacrificing your own life for.
No, it’s just a very limiting one. Most people who are in favor of killing of Gordon want to just for the sake of having a sequel with someone else as the main character. And of course to some people that implies they could make a whole bunch of other changes, like making the main character speak, making it Adrian Shepard, adding full-body awareness, etc.
My personal theory is that throughout the next Half-Life game, the G-Man will start developing a severe case of dyslexia due to an alien intercourse from when he was on vacation. When you finish the game, which should have progressed to a point where Freeman has finished with his mysterious assignment, the final cutscene will take about 3 hours for the G-Man to say something in the lines of “Well done, Missssster Freeman. blah-blah-blah” and then he’ll put you somewhere on holiday to live your days.
*Recording the 3 hours of dyslexic dialouge also explains why the game hasn’t been completed yet.
Pffft… You guys are stupid, don’t you know who is going to become the next leader of resistance? Can’t you smell the paranoia in the air? The stench of being stuck in another world for years? You seriously cannot hear the cries of the old world? One left behind, and one that only one man remembers…
