Music you associate with Games

Let me explain a little better…

I just had my music on random and the song ‘So Long Scarecrow’ by Scarling came on. Into my head popped the memory of running through Zangarmarsh in WoW:TBC.
I bought that album way back when the first WoW expansion came out and I must have played it a few times when grinding Zangar for the first time. So now the album gives me mental images of Zangarmarsh. Whenever I hear songs by that band I immediately think back to playing TBC.

Another example would be Gorillaz. There are a few songs from the first album which make me think of the old Lionhead game Black & White. I used to play B&W with Gorillaz in the background.

Finally, whenever I hear certain Dillinger Escape Plan songs I think of the original Dawn of War.

So, are there any songs which you now associate with particular games?

I associate disturbed with the deserts of Morrowind. As much as I would have loved to play that game with its vanilla soundtrack because it was awesome I couldn’t because there simply wasn’t enough for the amount of time I played it.

Also I associate the Geto Boys with Killing Floor. I don’t know why but I always listen to them when playing killing floor.

I always associate badass, triumphant music with Serious Sam. Mostly because I love the final boss themes of each game: the Great Pyramid, the Grand Cathedral, the Mental Institution theme, and ‘Final Boss’.

Fortunate Son with Battlefield: Vietnam.

Shit, that was awesome.

I associate “Rihannon” by Fleetwood Mac with They Hunger, Maktub’s album Khronos with Half-Life, and Reggie Watts’ album Simplified with Half-Life 2. When I was making my first source map (which I never released), I listened to Kansas, and when I made Overture (my Portal map from a couple years back), I was listening to the Led Zeppelin Box Set.

Shiiiiit, listening to “Song For America” is reaaalllyy bringing back memories of long, hot summer afternoons spent mapping on my old laptop.

UNKLE with Resident Evil 4.
Perfect Circle with Half Life 2.
Shinedown with Starcraft.

None of which I’m proud of, but honestly.

System of a Down always brings me back to KOTOR 2. Also Seven Nation Army reminds me of the ending puzzles for Majora’s Mask.

And this last one I associate with Mario, specifically Mario 64

My brain broke when I played Quake 2. I had just finished ripping a copy of an Enya CD for a family member when I started up Quake 2. Now, in Q2, at certain points in the game, it would play the CD as background music (you’re SUPPOSED to have the Q2 CD in the drive). So, here I am, fighting Stroggosans, and what happens? Orinoco Flow.

I now associate Orinoco Flow with Quake 2. And that makes my brain break.

Believe it or not, Bjork and Gears of war.

and TV on the Radio’s Things you can do, I associate with Dead Space.

When I was younger, I used to play a lot of Gmod listening to Jimmy Hendrix, so a lot of times when I hear Purple Haze or All along the watchtower I think of Gmod

I associate Tomorrow Comes Today by Gorillaz with Mass Effect 2. Also Paul Oakenfold’s remix of C.L.U. I associate with Human Revolution…but I don’t think it’s hard to hear why.

This isn’t exactly the same thing, but a lot of times I’ll hear an older song (70’s - 80’s) on the radio that I haven’t heard before, and I can hear exactly which piece of video game music it could have inspired. If I find an example I’ll post it later, can’t think of any right now.

Not sure how much this counts, but whenever I hear BB/TDK/Rises OST I think of Modern Warfare 2, because I didn’t really pay attention to TDK trilogy OST until after I played MW2.

Also, some tracks from TDKR remind me of the Battlefield 2142 loading screen music.

Well, Hanz Zimmer did compose a few tracks for MW2.

Yeah, that’s why I said I wasn’t sure if it would count for much :stuck_out_tongue:

put on some Tubeway Army and play Dead Space 1.

On my first Mass Effect playthrough, I had a compilation CD of big band/swing instrumentals installed on my xbox’s hard disk, the perfect fit

Video Game Music

Eye of the Tiger
I was playing Vindictus, and we were waiting for more people to join the raid to kill the giant bear boss. Started chatting, someone decided we needed some theme music for this fight. EotT seemed like the logical choice.

I heard this once in Gran Turismo 3 when I saw a friend play it and I thought of Test Drive 5 instead cuz that’s where I first heard it.
