Mods

Let’s talk about game modifications (other than Black Mesa hurrr). Everyone knows what mods are so there wont be an introduction. They can be finished ones or currently on developement I don’t care as long as it isn’t Black Mesa.

Mods that I’m currently interested in:

IN DEVELOPMENT

Dear Esther Remake

Made by this one guy. He’s a professional level designer that made levels for mirrors edge and other games I think. Really bending the source engines capabilites. It’s a remake of an artsy mod for HL2 or something.

Raindrop

It’s like stalker, but on source. Story has something to do with russia and propaganda videos I guess.

Ivan’s Secrets

It’s looks like stalker. Takes place in a desert and aparrently doesn’t have FPSbanana users working on it. For source again.

Visage

It’s blue. Sounds sort of Silent Hill-like. For source again.

RELEASED

Research and development

A clever puzzle game for Half-Life 2 Episode 2, uses a lot of interesting solutions and concepts.

MINERVA

A very early single player mod for hl2, which has some good level design, but pretty basic visuals.

Now I just posted a bunch of unfinished source mods, but feel free to talk about finished UT3 mods or anything else.

Keep the handy umbrella site for mods in mind: ModDb

Thank you kindly fridge or ram I’ll just keep this post reserved if i need to post more than 10 images on the op

Thank Ram. These Mods look amazing, the only one I knew about previously was Raindrop. I played Dear Esther some time back, but the remake looks mind blowing. Is that really the source engine?

edit: Well holy shit, it really is. Amazing work, I’ll definitely keep my eyes on these mods. Valve better step their shit up for Ep 3 so they don’t get one-upped by the mod community. :stuck_out_tongue:

They look really good, except Dear Esther remake, really couldn’t get into the first one.

Yeah, but look at the remake shots! I would certainly give it another chance just to see how far they’ve taken Source.

I would play that, just to make sure they are using the source engine.

Recommend me some crucial mods to put on the OP

MINERVA

Can’t believe that’s a Half-Life Mod.

There was someone asking about Half Life 2 being remade on GoldSrc? I think it could be done if something like this can be created with that engine. Wow.

Have you played Paranoia? (great mod ). Uses a heavily modified GoldSrc engine. I think they’re using it too for CoF, but heavily modified again, so they can use heaps of advanced things that you wouldn’t think is possible with such an old engine.

I’m the art lead for Ivan’s Secrets.
Please change your info on it. It is no way like stalker. It takes place in a desert now.
We don’t have any ‘FPSB’ users. You could add some actual links/studio we use.

Our LD’s are very experienced in scripting, AI, and optimizing. We have only 3 Level designers anyways…

I’m a software engineer as well, so we have many new features, such as new a phong shader, and several other effects. And our vrad.exe has been enhanced a lot.

@OP, yeah, I saw those updated Dear Esther shots and was like WOW, this might make it worth a re-play when it comes out. I mean… it looks AMAZING. I wish I could figure out how to make good ground cover for my mod, cuz the large part of the intro is through a forest so… yeah.

Cry of Fear looks awesome, too. The main developer (or one of the three, dunno which one) posted on the summary comment page that it was 6 months out, and a reviewer said that it was “too scary”, which probably means it’s perfectly scary enough for a thrill-seeker, considering how pansy-ish he was being.

HOWEVER:
You forgot a few crucial ones…
Black Mesa Source (lol)
Research and Development (LOVED that mod, SOOO much. Close to my favorite mod)

https://www.moddb.com/mods/prison-island source
https://www.moddb.com/mods/the-mortewood-plaza source
https://www.moddb.com/mods/zeitgeist source
https://www.moddb.com/mods/half-life-1-arrangement goldsrc
I have many more I’m keeping an eye on, but these are the three that seem to deserve the most attention, IMO.

I’m also watching Visage, Raindrop, and Cry of Fear, which were all previously mentioned.

I really like what I’m seeing in the new ESF (Earth’s Special Force’s) 1.3 videos on ModDB (Goldsrc engine).

I am hardly a dragonball fan, but this looks very cool.

Paranoia was also a great TC for Half Life. The atmosphere especially in the introductory levels was amazing.

I just said that I wont 2 times in the op. I wonder why OH WAIT THERE IS A FORUM DEDICATED FOR THAT SOMEWHERE

Not much an this yet, but the page looks awesome:

Overwatch.

Also:

Korsakovia

i thought korsakovia wasnt that good and all the static gave me a headache

Yeah, I do think it was done badly, but I liked the storyline. As far as I can remember it anyway.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
