It is pretty great mod. Not about model but gameplay.
Provenance is a great mod even though its length was short due to only containing two map.
Well, I hope they “resume” developing the Blue Shift and Opposing Force mods…
Imho, once BM is released, it will really boost the chances of projects such as Blue Shift and Opposing Force, because they will, obviously, steal everything from BM.
If they do, we’ll all boycott them… and everyone at moddb will rape them.
I`m pretty sure people will steal it anyway.
Hey, all those people got what they deserved. The fact that I recieved a large sum in my offshore account has nothing to do with it.
I think using Black Mesa as a source of inspiration is a much better way to describe what will happen once it’s released.
Considering I myself am a level designer for Operation Black Mesa, I constantly refer back to the architecture that Black Mesa has used.
A lot of the media shots they have released are really well done, and it keeps continuity between the different remakes.
Think of it as what Gearbox did with Half-Life 1, they didn’t 100% remake each section the way they thought it should look, the areas are consistent with that of Half-Life 1.
Another thing I’m certain of is once Black Mesa is released, if either mod tried to design a certain area different to what it’s like in Black Mesa, I’m sure we’d get a fair amount more of “Doesn’t look good, Black Mesa did it better”, than of “U stoel dis fom blac meas.1!11”.
:’( It’s upsetting trying to do something well when you live in the shadow of something else.
What I meant is, people will have all the NPCs, models, weapons and textures from Black Mesa, so doing things like BS and OP4 will be much easier.
Well we can’t exactly use any of that.
Since then it really would be stealing.
Not if you make Black Mesa a requirement to play your mod. You only supply your own maps, scripts, new textures, sounds, etc… as addon to the main Mod.
If BM gets a Steam release someday, modders may only need to mount the content and use it as a starting point I guess.
I don’t think that the developers will be releasing all of what you said. It can be easily done without their permission, but then it is blatant stealing.
I live in hope that the developers will give some support to respectable mod’s.
Not possible. I’m not a coder, but I think if we want to move Operation Black Mesa on Black Mesa, we will need source code to implement other features Opposing force has into Source engine. I think it’s not possible without BMS’s source code, right?
So no, Operation Black Mesa, or Guard Duty won’t be running under Black Mesa mod, both mods are going to be standalone mods.
I see it like this: either you reuse something Black Mesa already offers or you rewrite it from scratch. You would basically overwrite the things you need to adjust for your own mod and stream in the base content you don’t need to apply changes to.
Of course my knowledge of Source modding is limited so it might be much more troublesome than that.
The Opposing Force Sequel is not DEAD they are merely not updating so everything stays secret they will release it on 2010[/SIZE]
Well, we are indeed far from 2010 release, but it’s alive and kick’n . Same about Blue shift remake.
And btw, Am I right, if I tell that Opposing Force will celebrate 10 years anniversary soon ?
Will Operation Blackmesa try to make their game similar to Blackmesa when it is released? If Blackmesa comes out with one concept of Xen and Operation Blackmesa comes out with their own very different concept it might not look very good.
A bit of constructive criticism is the Radioactive goo in Operation Blackmesa. The goo looks far to similar to Half-life 2’s goo and it looks very different from the goo in blackmesa’s screenshots.
I think it would help both mods a lot if they had a similar atmosphere and very similar texturing so that players will feel like they are in the same place as in BM, just in a different part of the facility.
On a lighter note, both dev teams are doing a great job, keep it up!
There is no affiliation between operation black mesa and this black mesa mod, so whatever that mod team decides to do is up to them, and you’re better off asking in their forum, not this one.
The creator got hired at Gearbox if I’m not mistaken, not as cool as VALVe, though.
K. I understand they aren’t affiliated, I was simply posting what I think might help their mod out a little. I think I might go and register on their forum.
