Moddifying My Dream Rig

Here’s the list so far. Tweaks are still being made, and rebates are not included on the individual listings. But the total accounts for them. Also, the Megolith heatsink I intend to get is not listed either since Newegg is presently out of stock. The heatsink will have a push and pull fan system as well.

Simply looking for opinions on different products. Also, budget is flexible.

I wouldn’t buy a GTX480, but whatever

pssst get 2 5970s.

I want a computer that’ll just spontaneously upgrade random parts to state-of-the-art specs, totally by itself (nanites or something) for free every few minutes, and is fueled by whatever the source of my indoor allergies is.

I would like to point out that you intend to spend the same amount of money that I did for my PC…

…on your coolers.

It’s still the fastest GPU on the planet, I’d prefer two GPU’s instead of four when you go ATI.
Better crank up the fanspeed, if those GPU’s really do get 100 C you could burn the capacitors or voltage regulators surrounding the GPU.

Also OP, what CPU cooler are you going to use? I’m assuming you will overclock the CPU.

I see you went tripple channel on the memory (good  ), just don’t forget to manually set the timings (including B2B timing, not sure if it’s available on EVGA boards) and voltages.
Personally I suggest you grab a cooler for the memory, from my own experience I can tell that memory at 1600 MHz or higher will run hot and considering most CPU fans move the air above the memory through the heatsink.

You’re going to have to overclock the CPU anyway if you want to run the memory at 1866 MHz - just make sure you stay within Intel specs (the memory controller is now integrated in the CPU not in the north bridge) max voltage = 1.65 V

gaming computers are sucha dumb and shitty thing to do with your time and money. imo

this probably isnt the best place to express such an opinion but buy a fucking laptop and an xbox and shut the fuck up.

Don’t buy a xbox, don’t buy such a shitty gaming pc. It won’t make you happier. Go wanking or have fun with your girlfriend/wife, that’s better.
If you control yourself and don’t listen to numbers on the product and try to concentrate on the price and benefit of that whole thing it would be better to buy a good gaming pc.
That would be:
Geforce GTX 460 or Ati 5850
4gigs of Ram
Core I7 860 is good
if you have the money: a ssd with at least 256gb.
if you have a ssd: 2tb normal harddrive.

if you don’t have the money: the newest western digital black series disk together with the new 2tb disk.

these 3 are the most important parts.

Also:
GIANT FAIL

so much fail =/

:fffuuu:

The horror! He can’t play this mod on an Xbox can he? :freeman:

yeah but nobody can play it on anything. probably ever

definitely do not go nvidia right now because the performance jump over comparable ati cards is negligible, especially when taking into account how hot fermi gets and its price

Like I said earlier go 5970. IT is truly the fastest card on the market.

yep, GTX480 is the worst thing that nvidia could throw on the market.
just look at some benchmarks and you’ll see, that the GTX480 is not much better than a 5870.

I’d go for an i7 with tripple channel memory and two smaller HDD’s running in a RAID. You could get that SSD but we all know how extremely overpriced those are.

And how are you supposed to run a Core i7 860 with dual channel controller and Socket 1156 on a tripple channel socket 1366 board?
Raid is so useless. It only makes your transferrates faster and thats it. A good SSD is worth its price. Especially when you are willing to buy a pc for over 3000$.

Uh read the first sentence? “Get an i7 with tripple channel memory” obviously referring to the ones that support tripple channel.
As for RAID, you might want to read some proper reviews before you say something like that. (any speed increase is worth it, if you have two HDD’s then why not go RAID)
SSD’s worth their money? Give me a break… Yes it’s obvious as to why they are expensive, but they’re not worth it, only when you have large budgets.

I’ll try and respond to a few replies.

@ The ATI 5970s - I wouldn’t mind going that route, in fact. I haven’t read
up much on the 480s to be honest. It was merely a place holder, and the
main reason I would roll ATI is because of Eyefinity with my 3 ASUS monitors
so I don’t need to get that converter, unless the 480s can do so. It’ll be a
close call on my end since I’m a long running nVidia guy and I would prefer to
mix them with Intel. If I had an AMD CPU, I would go ATI hands down.

@ The CPU heatsink / RAM cooler - As stated, I would grab the Megolith
Heatsink that allows for two fans to be attached for a push n pull system. I
would OC the CPU to just under acceptable temps. The Dominators come
with a dual fan system that mounts on top of them to push air on them and
disperse it out.

@ My fail - Yeah, thanks for pointing that out. I went back at the page with
the CPUs on Newegg, both had the same GHz I just clicked the wrong one.
Hat’s off to you.

@ Looking at performance over numbers - I understand the 460 is probably a
more viable option, though I haven’t done 100% research on the new 480s
and they’re just a place holder [money wise].

@ SSD - I plan to get one to throw the OS on but that’s it.

^ + Your selecting 3gb/s’ for it? go;

Western Digital 6gb/s x 2 1TB

or

1TB (2TB if available) and a nice quality SSD
