Mod release speculation thread

Best first post ever.

Betrayal? You are way too emotionally invested in this project if you would really feel betrayed. This isn’t like “my best friend stole my fiance behind my back” or “my work was stolen by my trusted collegue and passed off as his own” situation, or any other true betrayal situations. They wouldn’t wouldn’t be witholding or stealing anything from you if the occasion did arrive that they would have to delay. They will delay if the situation can’t be helped or they think it’s the best thing to do. As of yet there hasn’t been any hint of delay so you can relax. But in anycase chill out, the mod isn’t that important.

I vote for having the “PROMISE BROKEN” debate if and after said so-called “promise” is broken.

In the mean time, let’s do some actual speculating. If only we had more than straws to grasp at.
With nothing concrete from the devs there is not much to discuss.

But then again, this whole thread was started by someone making a baseless conclusion with little evidence. THAT’S IT!

Continue pointlessly assuming things…

I smell gimmick account, who is this guy?

Its been released already, I should know, im not playing it. I’d rather play Pong on my Atari with my Grandma.

no, not really.

Exercise instead of forum? you’re crazy.

I’d rather listen to some pilkington and play sudoku… but Guzzi’s point still remains relevant in those circumstances.

Cool first post, bro!

Are we talking Karl ‘I could eat a knob at night’ Pilkington?

I didn’t mean it like that; I don’t take the mod that seriously. I’m just saying… If you see a community work on a mod for almost 5 years then they finally release a trailer, filled with in-game footage and loads of content, you’d think it was nearly finished, especially when it slaps a 2009 in there before they’re even into that year. All I’m saying is that it would be a huge disappointment for them to have to push it back into 2010. More than a million and a half have seen the trailer on YouTube alone. Count all the disappointments if you want to.

I wasn’t saying that I would be angry if it didn’t come out in '09. I was just saying that there are certain people who will get annoyed if it isn’t out in '09 and I don’t want to see a genuinely talented group of people get backlash for it not. All they need to do is say the word and we’ll all know that it won’t be out in '09. That’s why I’m confident it will be released in '09, they would have said by now, released an official statement and whatnot. As far as I’m concerned, however as much as I feel confident that it will be out in '09, I don’t care as long as it comes out before Summer '10.

By the way, ADD’d? Surely not Attention Deficit Disorder?

Of course not. He is referring to the mathematical operation of addition.

to the devs: It’s understandable (though regrettable) if you can’t release in '09… Large, professional development teams often have to push back deadlines for any number of reasons, so it’s certainly not unreasonable for a team of volunteers to do.

I would like to -respectfully- [assert/suggest/propose/something] though that, if you really can’t release in 2009 you owe it to the followers & fans to say so. It’s really not too much to be asking for imho, and by this stage in development and this point in the year, I think you should be able to discern whether a 2009 release is possible or not.

I respect the “it will be done when it is done” attitude, and honestly loose deadlines are best for any creative project, so I don’t think anyone is really asking for a date, just an update as to whether the devs still believe they can release in 2009 or not.

You know, if a few more people made first posts like this, the forum would be a much more civil place. :frowning:

Also GRIM.657, I’ve been following this mod for about 3-4 years now; in my experience, the dev team have always been as forthcoming as they can be. That’s not to say that they haven’t kept things under wraps, but if they’re running behind or whatever, they do seem to be forthcoming with a “hang on folks, we’re on it” sort of notice. I think we can probably count on them holding their hands up and saying, “we were optimistic, but sorry, it’s not going to be 2009” if the need arises.

That said though, 2009 isn’t over till the fat lady sings (or some such). I would be surprised if they announced anything like that until the very last minute possible.

I would also anticipate that they’re in the bowels of “project-finish-itis” at the moment, which is in many ways the hardest stage of any major project; you’re tired because you’ve been working on the sodding thing for such an age. You’re fed up because there’s nothing shiny and new to work on, only old stuff that STILL ISN’T F$£&%ING WORKING and needs debugging for the Nth time and you’re having to work under the increasingly large cosh of a looming deadline. I’m going through that with a project at work at the moment and it’s about as much fun as shagging a mincer. :fffuuu:

[edit]and that’s a meat mincer, not a man who walks funny… O_O[/size]

If you look at the trailer there was barely any ingame footage. Sure they showed you some of the levels from Inbound and some Gameplay in Blast Pit and We’ve got Hostiles, but HL is an ENORMOUS game. Nobody (except the devs) knows where they are at now. It is highly likely (IMHO) that it will be released in 2009, but everyone should wait until AFTER NYE to start posting about how they will feel ‘betrayed’

I hope the mod in released in 2009, proving all the naysayers wrong

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
