Mod release speculation thread

Well, maybe they don’t have as frequent conversation with the webdev as you’d think?
Maybe they don’t want to take back something that someone else put up there on their behalf just yet?
Maybe they don’t care enough to worry about website updates?

For me, i hope they release it in Summer 2010.
More time to get it perfect like HL1 was keeps flame shield up

God, you’re sycophantic. Hubicorn posts here all the time, Raminator posts here all the time, if they want to change a single phrase on the frontpage all it takes is an Email/IM. For fucks sake. And dont give me that “they dont care about the website” crap, Raminator cares enough to troll anyone who says “i cant wait until the end of 2009 to play this game” in random forum threads, again for fucks sake :fffuuu:

it’s a regular cook-out in here.

More like sausage-fest.

nom om nom sausages

Oh god yes.

Sigh this thread is degenerating rapidly, more so than usually anyway.

Listen, this whole deal about “Well the dev’s said o9’, if they don’t turn out something by o9’ then RAGE!!!” that keeps being dragged up needs to stop. And I know Clawtooth that you weren’t threatening rage or anything like that, but I am not talking to just you.

  1. The most important thing to remember is that devs haven’t made any statement saying that the way things look now, they will not/have a good chance of not make an o9 release. The only thing the devs have said is that if they have to delay the release to reach the level of quality that everyone is expecting, then they won’t hesitate to do so. But until they say otherwise, it becomes a moot point.

  2. Who cares if they made a “promise” to have it out by o9’. They have made themselves a higher obligation to doing the original title justice and releasing a high quality mod for the community, and especially people who have been following them for the past 4 or 5 years or so now. If releasing in o9’ and high quality become mutually exclusive, which to my knowledge has not happened yet, they will choose to create a higher quality mod. Now before anyone else has the temper tantrum of a two-year old screaming, "BUT YOU PROMISED!!!” it might be important to realize that although well intentioned, some promises my not be the most important ones to keep. If you promised your family a vacation, and you promised the bank a mortgage payment, and because of unforeseen circumstances you now don’t have enough money for both, which one do you think is more important to keep? (sorry if that’s not the best analogy, I’m working on an all-nighter)

The point is… Get over it. If it happens, it happens, big deal they’ll release it before too long, and when they release it will be a finished, top notch product that will rival industry titles in greatness. But right now there is no indication that it will happen, so go on with your merry lives.

Nice to see more coherent sense.

Semi tl;dr but I get what you’re saying. Still, if they aren’t confident that they are going to definitely release in '09 then they should make a statement soon because there will always be, as there always are, people who will say:

“U sed 2009 and is no out. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEG!!!”.

I just don’t want to see this happen. I’m still quietly confident that it’ll be out in 09, but there are still loads of naysayers who say things like “There’s no way” when there’s still about a 10th of 2009 to go!

I’ve got a fair bit to quote here, will try to prevent tl;dr-ism…

You sir, and Havelok, are cocks of the highest order. If you bothered to actually take more than a surface interest, you’d see that most, if not all of the dev team already have paid work (some in the gaming industry)… 1) they really are giving up their spare time 2) software development, even for cool games, isn’t nearly as exciting as it sounds when you’re doing it day-to-day 3) the devs can handle criticism, when you offer some criticism, I’m sure they’ll be more than happy to receive it.

My wife will testify that I have committed to finishing painting my living room before Christmas, that doesn’t mean that the deadline won’t slip if my kids fall ill, or I have a rush on at work, or I walk under a bus. Try re-reading your definition of the word “commit”, I think you’ll find the definition is more subtle than “promise”;

in essence, unless some unforeseen circumstance arises, I’ll get the job done.

Please keep in mind that I am not representing my own opinion, I am representing the opinion of the masses.

Everything you mentioned, and that many others have mentioned as a counter argument is correct. There is indeed no logical way to justify a negative reaction in light of the facts. However, as I pointed out, those that have all the facts are in the minority.

Those that do not have all the facts will act out of a simple emotional response, and thus there will be RAAAGE as others have so eloquently put it.

TLDR; I am merely stating a fact. There is no need to descend into name calling.

They have committed themselves to a 09 release, meaning that they are owrking their butts off to get it done ASAP. However this does not necessarily guarantee a 09 release.

I’m excited for it as I’ve (as well as many veteran members) have saw the ups and down of the community and the mod. In the end, its highly likely that we won’t even tell the difference of time. This mod will be out before we know it. End of 2009 at best and first month of 2010 at worst.

You cannot say you’re representing the “opinion of the masses”, since I highly doubt you have questioned the masses on the subject. What you’re representing is your projection of what the masses’ opinion will be, which is, by definition, your own opinion. Therefore my original assessment of you still stands because you’re determinedly (4 times, no less) declaring it as a “fact” when, clearly, it can be nothing of the sort.

:3 haha, cheers!

While Semi-tl;dr it may be (but probly not), it’s still 100% OWNED. In case you ADD’d, to Havelcock and other’s alike i’m sure anyone who is involved in making this and any true fan really just means harden’ up and STFU until it’s done. Promises are great. 09’ would be great. For a FREE mod of this magnitude though, it’s all just icing on the cake! Here’s to a badass remake being released when it’s damn well ready to be released.

Seeing a few developers fall back towards getting the crowd sympathized instead of giving reason is ridiculous. Sure, it’s a whole game, but when your team has been working on it since 2005 and you watch an awesome, content-filled trailer with “2009” at the end, you’d really think it would come out in 2009. Having common sense, I knew it would be released in the very late days of 2009. That’s why it would be a huge disappointment if it couldn’t even release this year after 4+ years of development and excitement from the crowd.

For me, hell, I’d probably move on and ditch the community, cause even you would feel betrayed after putting trust and confidence into this mod for a 2009 release. By the time it would come out in 2010, it’d be more like “meh” then “awesome”.

Time’s up.

I don’t think complaining about it is going to solve anything. Let’s just chill out and let them finish making the game.

Allot of people are worried about the release of this mod. The Black Mesa team I’m sure are working their best at completing a great mod within the suggested time frame stated in the teaser trailer. But, as far as I know they work other jobs to keep their real lives going. As such, we should keep our focus on our lives instead of obsessing over a mod that allot of people keep bothering and bitching about release dates and suggesting Ludicrous ideas of their own to implement into the mod.

Maybe instead of anticipating on an hourly basis when the mod will come or updates most people should go out and get some exercise and do things that will actually matter in their lives…

I'm looking forward to the mod as well and can't wait to play it as the original half-life got me into gaming in the first place back in 1998 and nostalgia will really be a great friend in the this mod. But, I have things to keep me occupied till then and realize the developers have a job, have family friends and hobbies as well. It's not fair to them that ass wipes bitch about the release when those bitching have no life at all and the only thing they can look forward to is a modification a to a game...

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
