Mod release speculation thread

Dude, you’ve had like two responses to what you said, I’m not sure why you’re so stressed by them.
This is the internet, and a forum dedicated to a mod that’s not out yet. Therefore anything you say that could possibly be interpreted as criticism will likely be picked apart by some fan. That’s just how it works, and isn’t meant to be taken personally.

I think what you brought up was quite interesting, in that it’s similar to the discussions I’ve had about whether altruism truly exists or not… in the end I feel that motives and intent shouldn’t really be considered as being as important as actions. The devs are making a free game for everyone who owns a Source game. I personally consider that a pretty sweet thing to do regardless as to why they’re doing it.

I’m not stressed, I was just editing my post and saw them. And about me leaving I have to go to sleep, and I don’t want to deal with the onslaught of people that are going to misconstrue everything I said and I don’t feel like dealing with that. Mob mentality

And I believe Altruism exists…in some ways I mean most people for family, and close friends. But most people in the world are not too altruistic, like most people would take advantage of you in some shape or form if they could. Did you have these discussions on the internet or? That’s a cool debate. I’d like to post on a forum like that.

Pay little attention to the crowd. They’re like a rally where the crowd is trying to chant “What do we want, [item]. When do we want it, now!”

The crowd aren’t going to affect much change in and of itself. Instead, the chanting is a form of mob self-control which is for the benefit of the crowd, rather than those they are aimed at.

Black Mesa will be here, and the crowd is salivating at the thought. No more attention than that needs to be paid by the developers.

Based on the comments though it seems that the game won’t be out for another few days/weeks yet. Are we able to get some kind of word regarding the amount of time that we won’t see it? If the work to be done means that it won’t be seen at least until mid December, why can that not be said?

Are we wanting to keep the crowd quiet until the time is near, or are we wanting to maintain the fever pitch until they burn out near the release?

What do we want, crowd control!
When do we want it, now!

Sorry

Lets get back to discussing the topic of release…anyone got any insider info?

And yet you’ve cut multiplayer out of the initial release.

I’m sensing some irony here.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Hm, I think this thread turned into a flame each other thread.

RUN!

I think we should have everyone here hop on hammer and each try to make a short single player map. Let’s see what quality of a level people can crank out in about a month.

Then after that month lets all just visualize. Lets count the number of different assets on the map - all of the textures, models, effects, weapons, npc’s, etc., anything and everything used. And then lets pretend that you had to design each and every thing from scratch. You had to design, model, and texture every prop, animate every character. Then lets say you had to re-write the AI from scratch, and make a number of other engine modifications as well. Compose a soundtrack for your map. Find and record good voice actors to increase immersion and help push the plot. Test and debug your map until it is as flawless as possible. It needs to have a progression, needs to feel like you are moving forward.

Then lets sit back and think, wow, that’s a lot of fracking work for a 15-minute map…

Too bad Half-Life is 20 hours.

Of course, they have an entire team working on it, but still… people really don’t seem to get it. I mean, I’ve spent quite a bit of time in the past learning how to use Hammer, which is straight-forward enough of an editor, but even for basic mapping I tend to lose interest fast and end up with incomplete maps. How the hell these guys have the dedication to be chomping away at this thing after so many years, I have no freaking clue.

No no no! Grab a fire extinguisher! Put out them flames! i LiKE this thread. it’s actually helped a little to cut down on “release speculation” threads…a little.

With that said, i really, truly, honestly respect the time and dedication put into this project. To me, it’s not a “mod”. i used to give it the title of “game” but this will soon have title the “Ultimate Half-Life Experience”. if i have to wait a few more months or even another year to play the best damn remake of the -already- best videogame in history. So be it. Every minute of waiting will be worth the train ride inbound.

…of course i think BM would make a mighty bitch’n Christmas present.

-Kawai Tei-

I’m sorry if this seems rude or inappropriate but it does say on the front page that you have committed to a 2009 release. In my book, and indeed the dictionary defines the word commit as to mean “promise” so I know it may not be that you were intentionally promising this but in your wording, you’ve made yourselves promise … whoever wrote that article/bit on the page.

… please don’t kill me.

Screw the mod, I’d beta test Raminator.

The developers truly believed that they would be done by the end of 2009. But remember, this estimate was made over a year ago. And that’s exactly what it was: an estimate. Since they were so confident in it they posted the date 2009 on their trailer. Can we really blame them for possibly (and let me emphasize the word “possibly,” here; it might still come out this year.) being poor estimators? Or blame them for possibly being overconfident in their estimate to the point where they would publicly announce their estimate?
No. Of course not. Although some of you seem to think that it is cause for a riot.
And for the record, I’m not attempting to “kiss anyone’s ass;” this is how I truly feel.

Yes, I’ll be sad when if at the end of 2009 there is still no Black Mesa, but ultimately there’s no one for me to blame. I’ll still take solace in the fact that this mod is being freaking made, which is completely epic. And I’ll have hours upon hours of enjoyment once it is released, whenever that may be.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go change my signature when I get home.

Edit:

Oh gosh, you’re one of them. -Sigh-, The web developer put that up there. The web developer has zero insight on what progress is being made on the mod. The web developer is not also a mod developer. That quote means nothing, in my book.

While I personally don’t care so long as it does get released, I think thats a sucky excuse, akin to a company blaming their marketing departments. Nothing really is stopping those devs who actually do know the score from speaking to whoever does update the front page.
It might help cut down on future flamey posts if it’s changed to say something like “we hope to be done before the end of 2009” instead.

:fffuuu:

Half-Life’s first planned release date was November 1997 >_>
I hope Black Mesa will be released in 2009.

Have some patience guys, some of us have been waiting for this for more than 4 years. All your waiting will pay off when it’s finally unleashed on the world. So what if it goes into next year, you and I get a better final product out of it.

My patience regresses every day :frowning:
So better I will think about puppies until the release :3

I’m sure BM will be as on schedule as Half Life and Half Life 2 themselves were.

Probably will be delayed to mid 2010. I really don’t mind, as long as the team have met their objectives to make a solid remake!

I did say at the end of the post “whoever posted it”. If they don’t think that it can be realistically released in 2009, they would already have removed it form the fromtpage and the final trailer. That’s why I still maintain that, until such time as it is ammended, the mad will release before 00:00:00 1/1/10.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
