Mass Effect thread

[COLOR=‘Red’]Warning SPOILER
Well I just completed Mass Effect 3. Like 10 minutes ago.
Needless to say I am severely disappointed with the ending, because the mass effect games are one of my favorite games ever(along with hl, sonic 2 and silver(1999)).

The end itself is totally inconsistent with the rest of the game, it’s like if Frodo at the end of LOTR decided to give the ring to Snape (yes Snape from Harry Potter fuck you that’s why), and then the whole world turns to lava and everyone dies except Boromir and he mates with himself and creates a race of boromirs on Uranus.

Also all the choices I made in the game didn’t matter whatsoever. It was just brutal to see the awesome universe of mass effect end this way… I expected more.
And I bought the collectors edition with the dlc and all that crap, makes me want to puke.

And of course they take notice. Hopefully it’ll work out for the better. It’s a shame though that they couldn’t have done something better in the first place.

Right now, I am assuming the [COLOR=‘Black’]Indoctrination Theory. I will assume this is what Bioware intended. Why?

It’s not because I think they planned for this. Whether that is true remains to be seen. This theory may be fans grasping at straws so that the ending to a great series isn’t total shit.

However, just like LOST, I have taken all possible information. Everything that may be experienced in the game. And I have to say, there is no other way the ending makes sense.

Again, this may not be what Bioware intended (though I have no doubts that, even if they didn’t, they surely will now). But, as with LOST, this does not matter to me. What I have taken away from the series is enough for me. I enjoy my own personal interpretation of what they offered, and that’s all that really matters.

Not to say some parts of the ending struck me as…strange [COLOR=‘Black’]namely the whole Normandy bit and the stargazer scene, but maybe those are part of what the theory references as well. All in all, I’m a little disappointed (actually, very much so) that my choices over the course of three games weren’t reflected in the last stretch at all, but fictionally it all ties together.

And if this was intentional, I can only assume they planned this new DLC in advance and have been so tight lipped to keep their own personal [COLOR=‘Black’]indoctrination of their fans complete.

And for anyone who hasn’t seen this yet…

EDIT: And yeah, double post. Because fuck you.

I agree with most of what was said in that video, except for a few things. They mention that everything at the end is in Shepard’s mind. I dont think that can be possible, simply because the choices of control, synth, or destroy… the consequences actually happen, so Shepard has to physically be there to choose. I do however agree that basically everything Shepard sees and hears is a fabrication of harbinger. and the whole “side arm has unlimited ammo” argument, that is just bioware making sure you cant run out of ammo, in the beginning while still on earth, when you first get the pistol you have unlimited ammo too.

Not if the consequences were in his mind as well.

The only reason I wouldn’t want this to be true is that I enjoyed watching TIM lose his shit. But rewatching the scene, the way the screen darkens around you and the way you hear the growling as TIM is trying to resist…it’s almost painfully obvious that he’s a projection of your mind.

Well, I just finished Mass Effect 3, and I have to say, I didn’t find the ending all that bad.

I didn’t really know what I was expecting, but from all the talk about it, I guess I almost thought it’d be something more along the lines of a purple leperchaun appearing from nowhere and giving Shepard a giant spoon which she uses to eat all the Reapers like cereal.

But yeah, I still found it kinda weird, and probably would have preferred something different, so I made my own instead.

(Which, now that I’ve uploaded it, I could have made alot more random as well)

it really was better -
its not that, that ending in its self is horrible. its that its the only ending and there’s 3 options. but you choose the same option every time. there’s no. YES my shepperd just did the impossible and saved the universe, which i believe many people wanted. if they ended me series on that note, everybody would be satisfied, then you go back and play the bad ending and detonate the universe.

From what I’ve heard about it, I think they were trying to make a narrative point- No matter how good of a person you play, there is no happy endings in war. Or something. You’d think that the trillions per planet cost of the war would make it plaintively obvious, but I guess they felt they had to bash the player over the head with it.

As for now, I’ll finish the game eventually, but I’m supporting [COLOR=‘Black’]indoctrination theory as the “true” ending interpretation.

Even if it wasn’t the original intent, Bioware will say it was so they can come up with a new one. For money of course.

If this wasn’t their intention, latching onto this and pretending it always was would be the smart thing to do.

I will pay cash money of any amount up to 60 dollars just to have a satisfying, spinoffable ending where the reapers stop being meanies and the galaxy continues in its current cycle.

Hoping BioWare either intended, or at least decides to snag up and roll with the indoctrination theory.

I didn’t cry in my chair for 30 minutes mourning the death of a fictional character just to see everything he died for, everything I spent 2 games working for tossed into a bottomless bin of plot holes.

Cmon, not only the endings are bad, most of the game is wrong.

Why do you need a different team than the ME2 one ? the Whole ME2 point was to bond with your squadmates showing them the way to paragon or renegade. In ME3 all ur struggles to help them changes nothing, not even the big wrong obvious choices you could do in renegade… Like saving morinth. Anyone noticed ? at the beginning of ME3 you get a pop up window that tells you “morinth gtfo’d of the normandy to live her life” and you meet her later, as a fury monster called after her. I mean I felt this was all a big big troll.

I believe ME3 failed at the whole Mass Effect point, its the worse of the 3 games.

Also, about that indoctrination ending thing, this is ridiculous. They told us the ending was as they wanted. They told us they will be trying to give us a more pleasing ending and we will get informations in april. There is no indoctrination.

[COLOR=‘DarkRed’]NO, that’s not true!

Even if the ending is just Bioware dropping the ball, I’d say 95% of the game was perfect. The gameplay was iffy at times, but ME was never really the staple of great gameplay anyway.

[COLOR=‘DarkRed’]No, I’m in control, nobody is telling me what to do!

All that you do in the past games is reflected throughout ME3. Every character you talked to or did anything for comes back and references exactly which choices you made. The reason Morinth got off the Normandy is because EVERYONE got the fuck off after Shepard destroyed an entire star system and was basically called back to Earth to be court marshaled (or at least they just acquired the Normandy from him and made it their own, as seen from the upgrades).

Everyone I helped came back around and reflected the changes I made in their lives.

[COLOR=‘DarkRed’]Do you believe power like this comes easy? There are sacrifices…

[COLOR=‘DarkRed’]That’s not true!

[COLOR=‘DarkRed’]They’re too strong…

I tried, Dblkion.

BANG

EDIT: Also, following the whole “The entire area reuses different motifs from areas you’ve previously been” thing, look at what you shoot in the Destroy ending. Doesn’t it look like what you were shooting on the human reaper?

I believe thisguy (Paul Tassi)
If the endings weren’t all so similar, then the ending dlc wouldn’t be possible. This way bioware doesn’t need multiple dlcs for multiple endings.
Or I just desperately want to believe that those horrible endings were fake.
EDIT: This also explains a lot

Wow, still haven’t gotten to even play this game and I’ve accidentally spoiled basically everything. For those who care, I did go back and finish up ME2 again, but when I attempted to import my guy, he came out changed. He is not at all the same guy, and it really pisses me off, so I’m biding my time, playing other great games until Bioware releases the patch that might fix my problem. The thing is, is that they actually took away options in the character creator. Some people can’t even get Shepard to import at all, but I think it’s possibly more infuriating when the import “works” but he comes out as a deformed doppelgänger. So I’m just hoping that the upcoming patch fixes the deformation as well as the failed imports.

PS: This page reflects my feelings on the matter.

PPS: I also can’t use multiplayer because its my brother’s copy so

Am I the only person whose Shepard imported perfectly?

I’ll import mine before the weekend is over, I’ll let you know, Ramirez.

Right now, I’m just running around the galaxy trying to finish all the side quests EDI keeps pointing out to me. Then it’s IFF/Legion loyalty/Omega 4 Relay time.

I just remade my Shepard, it looks about right.

Just imported. ME2shep had black hair and blue eyes, ME3shep has brown hair and green eyes. Time to try and recreate.
