MAG

Anyone looking forward to this game? I just played the beta and even tho u can only play with up to 64 people, I have to say that things got pretty intense, I can’t even imagine what its gonna be like with 256 people. Anyone who doesn’t know, MAG stands for Massive Action Game. Its a PS3 exclusive coming out on the 26th and its a multiplayer FPS that boasts up to 256 people battles. Featuring huge maps, vehicles, huge selection of weapons, intense visuals, chain of command (squad leader all the way up to officer in command), robust leveling system, unlockables, extensive weapon upgrade system, and much more this game looks like it will take multiplayer FPS to whole new scale.

Sounds like a bot.

Yeah, only 64 players. Pffft, what a console fag shooter.
[/sarcasm]

I played a few games of it. It’s cool, but I wouldn’t say I would buy the full game.

I think it takes a frustrating amout of bullets to kill an enemy. Sniper rifles are bloody annoying when they are in the hands of a spawn camper (though you can choose many spawns)

What? 256 people? I’m buying a ps3.

But not really.

I dunno, 256 people sounds dangerously close to the total amount of people who actually own PS3s in North America…

And the colour scale.

This isn’t 2006 back when the ps3 was very expensive, its becoming a lot more popular now, almost everyone in my town and the next town has one, also this isn’t a ps3 vs. 360 thread. topic please.

While until any news of this game on the PC reaches my ears I don’t care whatsoever about it, I wonder how a game would be dealt with if there were only 100 people or 150 people. Also, I suspect you will never see that many people at a time, and it will ultimately just be like any other multiplayer game except there are slightly more people and stuff is going on else where with more people.

EDIT: This just occurred to me. If you are going to make a game whose only distinguishing feature is that it supports a lot of people, then why would the demo support a lot less people? I feel like they are hiding bad gameplay when lots of people join.

Because the beta is free and its quite expensive to run servers that have up to 256 people connected to em.

More like 4096

I think the whole ‘shit ton of players’ thing was already tried out on the PC.

Didn’t work too well. There’s probably no way that it would work on a console.

If anything, MAG will probably serve as an example of why most games keep it to a cap of ~64 players.

You mistake me, sir: I don’t like the 360, either. Call me crazy, but a $300+ gaming console that is notorious for just deciding not to work any more just doesn’t strike me as a desirable - or even acceptable - piece of hardware. :meh: As for the PS3…sure, they slashed the price of the PS3 and now more people are buying them, but they can’t replace their PS2 with it any more. :fffuuu: How does that even make sense coming from a company who has historically been popular precisely because of their desire to make their game consoles backward compatible?

You want some topic? How about this: When have you ever joined a multiplayer FPS game server that was hosting more than 128 people and gotten playable ping times? Hell, even MMORPGs have trouble sending your client data from more than 200 other people at a time without lagging like crazy.

No, even if I were the owner of a PS3, I wouldn’t waste money on MAG without first playing a very convincing tech demo. Crippling the demo the way they did was pretty darn devious in that regard.

Call me a skeptic, but: :meh:

Hahaha zing!

Even so, if the entire premise of the game is 256 player battles, and many are skeptical of whether or not that will work, then I’d pay the money because that will get a lot of skeptical people to buy it who wouldn’t otherwise, thus making it worth the money.

No one is going to pay for a beta. I learned that lesson after buying Gears of War 2 and playing a few multiplayer matches.

Fuck you Epic!

Wait, what? Who said anything about paying for a beta?

You did.

The other thing is most people aren’t skeptical about this at all, there are atleast 100 people my grade who are gettin this, idk too many underclassmen, but a lot of uperclass are gettin it too, thats close to 200 people and thats just my irl school friends who are gonna get it. Add the in the rest of the people in the world who like games like COD, and I think u should have plent of people. Resistance 2 had up 60 people multiplayer matches and for the first 6 months it was out, it wuz actually hard to get into a game that wasn’t full so i think the amount of people shouldn’t be an issue. Also this game supports up too 256 people, there plenty are of smaller maps for CQC and small skirmishes instead of the games main huge inconic battle maps.
