Big thread = rope?

Also, I was tempted to get a rope font and create a picture, but that’s way too much effort.

I think jambo just predicted the direction of this thread by accident.
In my opinion Mac OSX is the best, I think the computers are awesome as well, mac pros and their laptops are built to be customisable. However, I am going to stick with windows because Microsoft have Direct X. As for Linux, I haven’t had any expierience with it, but I know it is free (which is great) but apparently not much software will run on a Linux computer.
Every piece of software ever written for mac or PC can theoretically be run on linux, along with software from cell phones, microwaves, etc…
I bet even a Tamagochi could run on Linux.
This one is certainly the most accurate.
I use all 3, Linux for work, internet and the nice special effects, Windows for programming and Steam games, Mac for graphics and music.
I’m very balanced.
For the computer fixing trade I use Linux for fixing broken Windows operating systems and Mac for fixing broken networks, Windows can’t fix shit beyond what’s inside your box.
I dislike Macs because they are very enclosed, you can only upgrade a few hardware components, DVD, HDD, RAM, GPU, with PC computers you can change anything.
I’m doing a project where I’m building an Intel gaming machine inside the case of an old Mac G3 pro (So sexy) and will be triple booting all three OSes, it’s my perfect computer.
(Actually my perfect computer would be Mac or Linux that runs win32 programs, windows is just good for the stuff people that aren’t M$ produce)
Vista is a nono for resource consumption, but a yesyes for multiple-CPU cores, Win7 from the looks of it will be good for the RAM and an interface that mimics KDE, Mac OS X is pretty good, aslong as you stay within the fence Apple puts around your user account, Linux is just great, the frequent use of terminal I’d imagine would put off a lot of computer illiterate people though, although I first used KDE in the house-hold of total computer noobs.
I had a disliking for people who bought Macs for the “Coolness”, that gave OSX a bad reputation, it’s like the TF2 players who use Pyro with Backburner and hold W+Mouse1, it just gives Pyros a bad name and ruins the reputation of people who are dedicated Pyro players.
Wat?
Windows blows for programming. Any unix operating system is far superior to program on. I’d prefer to program on linux or osx any day.
People who say osx is extremely limited haven’t used it enough to know. It’s a really open ended operating system, and yes, it is designed for dummies, but you can do a lot more then people think. The hardware is a lot more limiting then the operating system itself. If you know where to go, a large portion of games are actually ported to OSX.
Just for the record I have successfully gotten Black Mesa to run on linux. Little slower due to Wine, but still rather good. This was something like 9 months ago on Ubuntu so I can’t comment on its current state.
I’m not saying you’re wrong or anything, most likely it was my fault, but last year I tried to do some programming (in Java) on the Macs in one of my classes and had no clue how to go about it. I searched in Google for a while and still couldn’t figure it out.
Install java. If you’re an IDE fan, use Eclipse. If not, use a text editor, and compile using the javac command.
That simple.
I enjoy windows 7 much more than I enjoyed windows xp. Both are fine… however one looks cooler.
I’m stickin with XP. It’s solid, and it’s never given me a problem, other than ones that I caused myself. We have a couple iMacs at school, but I couldn’t be bothered to use them. As for Linux, it’s kind of cool at the start because it’s different, but it does get boring fast.
If it’s worth any consideration I too had XP and thought it was great, and sure as hell didn’t switch to Vista. But for me, Windows 7 was finally the OS that changed my mind. It’s well worth it if you have a PC with more than 2 GB of RAM. I haven’t had a single issue with it yet, and so far runs every game I’ve thrown at it. (Including a lot of old Win 95 games)
Macs are the first computers I’ve ever used, was born into a Mac using family, I know a lot more about them than I do about Windows.
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
