its a mixture of the two lol
No, it’s not sci-fi. Like I said - too much mystery and no explanation. Believable science that is explained at least partially is the core of science fiction.
and lost has always has had beleivable scientific theories that has been partily explained, like sending not you but your concioues/mind back through your own timeline, and last time I checked time travel is considered scifi , theres also a lot of theories on physics and magentism that I wont pretend to understand
Time travel is not a believable scientific theory, let alone separating your consciousness from your body.
all sci-fi is believable, even time traveling robots from the future…
as qouted from wiki,
"Daniel’s machine is a device created by physics professor Daniel Faraday as part of an unauthorized experiment at Queens College, Oxford involving time travel.
The machine looks like a large overhead lamp. It emits a bright violet beam, similar to the light seen during the discharge. According to Faraday, it can “unstick” a consciousness within time so that it can travel to different points within a subject’s life, in the past or in the future. The device works when it is set at 2.342 and oscillates at 11 hertz.
The frequency of “unsticking” episodes experienced by a subject’s consciousness increases exponentially, and the more the subject’s consciousness travels in time, the shorter the duration of these episodes. Soon, an affected subject will suffer the effects of the condition known as “temporal displacement”, resulting, in some cases, in a brain aneurysm.
According to Daniel Faraday, in order for a person to cope with the confusion of time travel, and stop the episodes, they need to find a constant. A constant is a person, or an object, who can be found in both the present time and the time the person is traveling to. Once a person finds their constant, events in both times will “course-correct”. It is implied that a person must care deeply for their constant, presumably because the effect of finding a constant the person is unfamiliar with may increase confusion"
The basic’s of this also apply to the entire island travelling through time (Which will be explained more in season 6, when we learn about the origins of the “donkey wheel”), and the effects are also similar to some of those who leave the island “incorrectly” so to speak
angry rant here
I love lost and can’t wait to see the final season. I have seen every minute of every episode EXCEPT the first few minutes of the very first episode
thats insane, how’d you miss that? you missed a very important clue, at least i believe it to be, jacks dads shoe stuck in a tree as he exits the jungle, what can it mean?
Purity, I’m not trolling. What was your problem with my comment?
Lost is gay.
/end thread
After reading the three pages here I guess you know why there wasn’t a thread here. All haters. Too bad, I really enjoy the show. I suggest checked out thefuselage.com if you want to discuss Lost.
“Lost Thread, discuss lost here”
“lost sucks”
= troll.
“Time travel is not a believable scientific theory”
Honestly you have no grounds to say this, no one has successfully demonstrated time travel, but no one has been able to rule it out either.
It’s about as believable as pushing a crystal into a beam of light and causing portals opening up around the world/universe that let aliens/combine into our universe/world.
Bad troll with a bad troll name :hmph:.
If you don’t like the series, don’t post in the thread? How about that? Is that so hard to do?
We get it, It’s not your show. Great, everyone is different and I can easily accept that, but no. You guys continually “BAWL, LOST SUX CUZ IT HAS LIEK UNBELIEVABLE STUFF ON ITS MOVIE WAT, ANYTHING THATS POPLUR IS GHEY IM A REBEL AND MY OWN PERSON!11”
Great, now my face hurts from all the :facepalm:ing I’ve done in this thread, thanks a lot!
Lost is an amazing series which I admit has frayed a bit at the edges in the most recent season. However, I await what I hope to be a great conclusion which answers many of our questions.
Forget the monster and Locke’s revival. I want to know about the Sickness. Is it real?
In addition, I hope they expand upon the origins of the Others. My father actually came up with the idea they are the descendants of the survivors of the Black Rock. I guess that explains why there are all white; it was a slave ship, and I guess the surviving crew couldn’t care about setting the slaves free.
In one of the offical Lost videos, it was revealed, which should be fairly obvious, we will get to see the Temple in season 6. I think that there was some sort of Aztec/Eygptain type tribe on the island first, they I believe built the temple, but after some sort of bloody conflict between Jacob and BSG (The Black Shirted guy we saw at the start of season 5), they died out. Jacob won this conflict and so improisned BSG in a cabin, then made it so the black rock crashed on the island (God knows how it got so far in land) and made the crew of this ship protectors of the island in exchange to be allowed to live in the temple (Which also meant the temples lap dog, smokey, wouldn’t attack them), thus the others. Richard Alpert however lived on from the Aztec days, but was punished by Jacob for betraying him, this punishment would be he would never age (Which sounds like a reward, but when you think about it, living as long as he has, must be a terribly painful thing at times). this being purely my own theory of couse
I’m pretty sure that a discussion doesn’t always have to be positive. So, considering that, and considering that I’m making my points calmly and logically (rather than just replying with “OMG!!1!! TROLL fACEpalM FacCEPALM!!”) I’m not trolling.
If no-one has demonstrated time-travel or come up with any decent theory behind it, that means it has no grounds in science.
If it’s a thread discussing something, and I want to join in, I will. As far as I can see the only negative impact of discussion in this thread has been you dissolving into tears.
Also, Lost isn’t that popular any more, so that rebel point doesn’t make much sense.
Don’t worry, it can’t look any worse.
Not to be a stickler, but doesn’t that destroy almost every science fiction story that has space travel because “light speed” cannot be achieved as far as we can tell?
its scifi its just not hard sci fi. everyone isnt arthur c clarek mate
Yep. I hardly even consider it sci-fi. I’d say it’s more fantasy, but now it does seem to try and take on the sci-fi genre.
Thats what I’ve been trying to tell you, Lost has provided an explantion to the time travel, set rules, that they’ve stuck to. I think its plausiable to think you’re “mind” can travel through time without a way of controlling it, and it only ever lasting a short period of time, with it eventually leading to a brain thing (Can’t remeber the proper word) if you can’t find a way to anchor your “mind”. They even had a rocket scientist (Faraday) on the show to explain it all as it happened
I’m rewatching Lost from the beginning thanks to this thread, and I will tell you- Locke is by far the best of the original characters. (Later it becomes Ben, but I’m not that far yet)
P.S. What’s all this blabbering that time travel isn’t a real thing? Of course it’s not a real thing, you slimy, gritty burst condoms, but just because the science is soft doesn’t mean that a show can’t use it.
