Loss of Interest in BM?

proof that Ontological Intruder is butthurt

So credible and authoritative.

Some people are also skeptical of evolution. Some people are stupid. Some people are wrong.

I guarantee you people have been waiting for this game longer that you have.

The Wikipedia entry is not meant to be evidence that Black Mesa will not be released and I haven’t complained about the delay of the release. Given that this thread’s topic is about whether people have lost interest in the mod, the Wikipedia article is relevant in indicating expectations.

That’s true, your fresh eyes have renewed that fact that this thread is strictly about the loss of interest in BM. So many new people generally post here or start threads in order to bitch about the release and ask rhetorical, pointless questions.

IMO this thread is pointless anyway. After 6+ years of development, its a given people will lose interest. Why even ask?

I have occasional, spontaneous bursts of interest, such as the one that compeled me to register and post just now. The fact that the mod is promised to be released free keeps me from having any covetous feelings of frustration. Also, there is the time potential for me to acquire a better computer to run it flawlessly.

At this point, I’d actually feel better if they waited for Portal 2’s SDK to release this fall, and port it, so it doesn’t look like a 4 year old game engine. If those GI screens are any implication, the visuals should put BM to shame. Can’t do much worse at this point.

That would equate to potentially a few more years of waiting.

That would equate to potentially a few more times the awesome.

But then during those extra years another engine upgrade will come out, permitting supposedly “even more awesome”. Doesn’t the phrase “line in the sand” mean anything around here? If BM finished and released on it’s current engine and then got upgraded to the Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 8 or Episode Three engines (yes that is my prediction on the order those games will come out  ) then that would be fantastic. But if you take the opportunity to upgrade everything any chance you get there will be no milestone.

It’s called “Duke Nukem Forever Syndrome” or DNFS.

Do Not Fucking Stop

working on this mod

Chances are some random person thought his opinion mattered with regards to the length of the development time of Black Mesa, and so added it to the list on wikipedia. Unlike a real game, this is being made by fans of the original, they aren’t being paid and have their own lives to attend to. Stop being such an asshole by asking for release dates or calling it vaporware all the time, you won’t get called a hero for it.

 ahahahahah

Yeah, you guys are right, all of this look like shit compared to the original game, why even bother releasing it, right?

Tell you what. You port the whole game to Unreal (/Cry)Engine 3 and see how it presents itself in five years compared to the new games.

Some people complain because they don’t even consider the fact that game engines are developed FOR particular games (even if they’re bought like UE3 they’re always modified in some way). BM is based on an engine built six-seven years ago and a bit modified along the way.

What I’m saying is what you see now is not even close to the technological potential of current engine developers. UE4 is on its way for 2(3?) years now. Do you think that when they finish the first game based on it another engine project for much later games won’t be already started?

Technology gets old very quickly, making a “game” on already old engine inevitably leads to posts like yours. It also means that some people don’t use their brains and bitch about stuff they don’t have a clue of…

Also, I’d appreciate it if you didn’t bitch about my English, any mistakes were or weren’t intentional so don’t bother pointing them out :stuck_out_tongue: .

That was me  It did say “nearly seven years”, and I was going to correct it, cos let’s face it it’s more like 5.5, but I had a better idea!

God bless Wikipedia being editable by absolutely anyone, and yet still a cornucopia of completely reliable information :retard:

Bah, everyone is a critic nowadays. Personally I dont get the whole “game is looking old already” mentality. Old cuz it isnt on the new engines/technology? Talk about feature creep… a game would never get done if it was meant to be created with the latest and greatest and up to the moment kewl new fandangle effects. amirite?

Duke Nukem forever didn’t get released because the game was constantly being ported to the newest engines and being made with the most cutting edge technologies, now the company that was making it is bankrupt. You have to accept that the game will only look so good, or it won’t be released.

Actually they’re not bankrupt, but Take-Two (their publisher) pulled the plug. Now they’re in a legal battle as to whom gets the rights to DNF.

IIRC, 3D Realms went bankrupt, so they had to ask Take Two for funding.

No, they’re not bankrupt, they had to cut back and let people go but they’re not bankrupt. But without Take-Two’s funding they can’t finish DNF, and there’s this legal shit so…

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
