Loss of Interest in BM?

They let go all but two people. that sounds bankrupt to me.

I’m fairly sure there’s more people still at work there.

Maybe there are a few employees left at 3d Realms, but not for the Duke Nukem team. Brousard and Miller fired the whole team. Everyone on it. It’s gone, dissolved, history.

:’( ah well, who cares.

They also claim is was almost completed, is still in development and should have been handed over to an external development studio a long time ago. Make of that what you will.

actually i visit a lot of cg sites and read what the devs that got fired had to say. You can still find some post on zbrush central and cd society. The game was nowhere near beyeing completed, it was 75%( the dev files say 60%) made at best. Also they werent porting the game all the time, the team that was making the game was brought in mostly 3 years before it got fired, so i have no idea what they were doying before that, but probly not making the game …
It was a scam to get as much cash as possible out ot take2 for as long as they can.
I remember a guy posting at zcentral that when he joined somwhere in 2006, there was nothing, just a mess of useless stuff, and they had to do everything from the start.
DNF would never come out.

The “Loss of interest in BM” thread has become the “Duke Nukem Forever” thread… I think we proved the OP’s point!

Actually 3DRealms never received any money from Take2. It was funded entirely with $20m out of Scott Miller and George Broussard’s own pockets. All Take2 did was buy the publishing rights from GT Interactive.

Actually the latest version of the Source engine is one of my favourites for two reasons.
When it comes to animations and facial expressions the Source engine is hard to beat. Its strength is bringing characters to life in terms of expressing feelings in different ways. Many engines are good at other things but the characters often look stiff and lifeless.

The other reason is that the Source engine can be maxed out on an avarage computer and still give the player a great satisfying experience despite it’s age.

That’s my opinion on the “game is looking old” discussion.

you do realize the “latest version” of the source engine is L4D2, right?

yea, I do. “latest” is perhaps not the right word. I meant the Orange Box version, my bad. :stuck_out_tongue:

so what up with take2 suing them for all that cash? But still a shame, i waited so many years for dnf ;( Good thing BM wont run out of funds ;D

I agree with Cellander, Source isn’t the new kid on the block and its age can show. I do not know if the cause is its lighting and shadowing capabilities, but I occasionally find source to be a bit lacking.

Still, the fact doesn’t change that I love source and its abilities/strengths.

MOAR!

That pic is severely lacking in Gman.

THIS.

I have a rather ancient computer and an upgrade isn’t going to be in the budget for a while. I’m glad this mod is going to be on an engine my computer can handle.

Besides, it’s not “old looking,” it’s “retro.”

No…

This is retro:

OMG dat is frum teh leek is it nowt!?!??!

Wrong!

This is retro:

lol

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
