Loss of Interest in BM?

So, do as you wish.
They are remaking from nothing one of the best games ever made. Do you really thinks they aren’t working hard and, because of that, every little thing must be perfect ?
Hm, I wonder why they are taking too much time. Maybe it’s because they want to give a good product to HL fans.

Where’s that cman2k quote when you need it?

The reason they aren’t giving us any info is because people will always find a way to use it against the developers. Always.

In other words, stop being a douche and stop demanding things you have no right to demand.

Also, what is with these huge sigs? A SIGNATURE ISN’T SUPPOSED TO TAKE UP HALF YOUR SCREEN, MAKE IT FUCKING SMALLER

Well you can think about it this way
Have you heard anything about an Episode 3 or HL3?
No?
They will let us know when they want to, until then its just speculation.

Because not giving any info at all is really working at the devs’ advantage?
Yeah, all those people that declare the mod dead is really helping the developers.
And all those pre-alpha youtube clips really helped too with keeping the mod believable.

If anything not giving any updates just makes the developers slowly, and steadily, lose their credibility.
It’s ok for Valve to do something like that, they are a company, they have people employed. Everybody who is working on the mod is doing it voluntarily and could disappear at any time and the rest of the team will have to deal with it.
It is very important to keep the mod alive, I am sure there are a lot of problems behind the scenes, because every mod has them and I would be really suprised this one, the most anticipated in recent history, is not having any problems.
The 2009 delay is a testament to that too, they thought they’d make it, but they didn’t.
You need that interest to keep devs from leaving the mod, to keep fans from labeling it ‘dead’ and sharing it all over youtube and shit.

I really advocate that deliberately not sharing any updates regarding the mod is something the devs will and are being used against the devs and the mod in general.

I agree that I am in no position to ‘demand’ updates, but hey, this is a forum where I can give my opinion. And my opinion is that there should be more updates, so I’m here looking for more updates and trying to make any sense to how there is so much claimed progress on the mod, yet no proof to be found regarding it.

I agree too that sigs should have a hight limit, although it’s just a way for some people to compensate a small fallus.

Grannd, go read the faq and pay close attention to the first section… including the quote from the project leader cman2k.

Other than that, insisting on any other information from anyone is only going to get you flamed.

With my given attitude of late, I would be inclined to let it happen.

:stuck_out_tongue:

I’m wondering why everybody thinks they have the right to demand updates, even after being told what the situation is really like most of them just keep asking. Does anybody else think that they’re doing it on purpose?

Grannd, I didn’t read your last post, but just shut the fuck up. The devs don’t owe you anything. If they decide not to give us any update that’s their choice.
Besides, there’s plenty of new info being given out regularly on the forums, and it usually ends up in the wiki.
If you’re so anxious to see how the mod is progressing, go read the wiki. All the info that has been gathered over the years should give you some indication of progress.

Edit:
Anyway, let’s say they put a nice little progress bar on the website. Let’s say at a certain point it’s at 80%. A lot of people will immediately assume that it’ll be completed within the next couple of weeks. If it’s not out after a couple of weeks, people will start bitching and moaning about broken promises, like they did after the 2009 fiasco.

Now get out of here. There are more important things than a silly progress bar for a silly mod for a silly game.

Personally, I can wait. Watching the old-timers flame the shit out of the hot-shit noobs never gets old…

Oh… it looks like I missed my chance to flame a whiny bitch…

Oh wait, no I didn’t.

Grand, shut the fuck up and get the fuck out of our forums. The devs don’t owe you shit and if you can’t respect them then you don’t even deserve to play the mod when it is released.

he left 30 min ago.

:frowning:

Don’t worry, he’ll be back. They always come back. > :frowning:

The way I see it there are a few issues here:

1) The problem wasn’t saying it’d come out in 2009. The problem was not updating the community when it was clear that they weren’t going to make it.

When your fans trust you, if you have to move the date they’ll be disappointed. But it’s better than leading them on for the entire year and just letting the date pass.

2) Dev teams give release windows all the time.
Sometimes they make them, and sometimes they get moved back. So “we might have to move it” is no excuse for not giving any at all. I’m all for taking time to do things correctly, but:

  • There is no perfect game.
  • Teams generally make better progress when they have a deadline to crunch around, regardless if you end up having to move it or not. Just having a real target makes a difference.

3) If anyone was around the Duke Nukem Forever community… They said the exact same things the whole way. There was plenty of “when it’s done”. And by doing that, they angered enough of the community that many people probably wouldn’t buy the game even if it magically came out tomorrow.

And… The nonexistent deadline never came (surprise). If it had, the game would probably have been irrelevant compared to the massive hype it started with.

This isn’t to say that Black Mesa is Vaporware. But when you don’t have a target, and you don’t communicate, you can blame your prospective base for feeling antsy.

Anyway… Just another 2cents.

The problem is that some people expect too much.

Well they could give us a little official update, couldn’t they?

please, don’t force it.
This forum saw too much flame wars to start another one.

And, don’t think I don’t want to see more updates. I do, but if devs don’t release updates, the only thing I can do is wait and talk to other forum users.

not lost interest in black mesa. im as excited as ever about reliving the god old hl days in delicious sourceness, I have however lost interest in checking the forums on a daily basis. im down to maybe fortnightly at best.

worst case scenario im 2 weeks behind on getting BMS though given that the internet is rumoured to assplode on release i dont think i’ll be that far behind…

None of this is new. To anyone. But asking the same questions over and over and over and over and over and over (times infinity) is not going to change anything. It wont make a squat of difference in what is said/done/shared/updated/given.

The dev team is on their own schedule.
The dev team will share something WHEN they are able. And if they do…
The dev team will share this something via the wiki without a bunch of hoopla OR…
The dev team will share it via a small post for those of us that are dedicated enough to ghost / lurk the forums for nuggets.

Its the way the ball bounces folks.

The only update I want to see from now on is “The mod is done! Download here-> [link]”

Well fine then. I just hope the mod will be released this year.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
