From the mod’s comments apperently some idiot got the passes mixed up so the twitter thing is down and they are stopping updates to work on the prodject but new stuff does come up every now and again.

Ah fuck. Some of you just make me so mad.
The real reason why this mod isn’t released yet is obvious: making the mod is not as fun as in the old days for the developers.
Why? Because there are some people in this community (many of them unfortunately) that make the developers lives miserable by thinking that they developers owe them a release. They put so much time and effort into making this beautiful project and what they get back is constant whining about this and that and post like “omgzlolz wen dis mod rlz kthxbye”.
Let me tell you something: the Black Mesa team doesn’t owe anyone shit. They spend time on making this mod that could be used to spending time with their spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend, sleeping or something else that people need to do.
Now, let us all just grow the fuck up and let the mod be released when it’s done.

Okay. This is an explanation from someone who has minimal experience with game development and knows a few people who develop games.
Black mesa was delayed because things changed in a years period during volunteer game development. In a volunteer project, devs quit a lot and they don’t work on the project nearly as much as devs who work for gaming companies as a full time job. Also some of the devs are probably just amateurs who are starting out and don’t have that much experience. Obviously, BM has been delayed for over six months which isn’t too bad considering that most mods like this don’t make it very far at all before they are abandoned. In a project like this it very hard even to make an accurate release date in the first place.
For my estimation on when it will be released:
Black mesa was probably thought to make a 2009 release until about Q3 2009, when they realized that due to changes in pace and what not it just wasn’t going to make it. They probably started to rush towards the end of 2009 and then thought that it would be better to just delay it and make it as good as possible. At the beginning of 2010, I think some devs quit and the whole team was reorganized. Now they trying to work on it as hard as possible to make their private release date. My estimation for release is about Q3 2010 because they aren’t giving us any updates, so it can’t be too long and I saw one dev post it would be released in 2010 a few weeks ago. What will probably happen is during the summer, the devs will say it’ll be out in the fall and they will actually meet the release date this time.
