A lot of people haven’t lost interest, they just hang around in the off-topic section etc. It’s not like we’re here only because of the mod, to be honest I can’t even remember the last time I posted something related to the mod. 
I’m not losing interest in the mod itself, I’m losing interest in talking about the mod though.

Exactly, I’m fine with not knowing everything about the game. If you know too much, you may build up some sort of false image of what it’s going to be like, and when you finally play it, you may end up feeling weird about the fact that it isn’t what you expected. Yes, it’s like seeing a movie trailer that gives away too much, or tells you what the whole thing is going to be like in advance.
I think that when the mod is in such an advanced state, probably very close to completion, there is no way the developers would give up. If you worked 6 years on something this huge, told the entire world about it, and it’s now almost finished, there’s no way you’re going to say “oh well… let’s just cancel it and do something else”.
Yes it is indeed a bit frustrating to not know anything about how it’s going along because we’re all curious and we can’t wait, but if you think about it for a moment, you’ll realise that even if there are no updates, they’re still working on it. I wouldn’t mind a tiny twitter update like once every 2 weeks saying “hi chaps, all is well”, but other than making us feel a bit better, it wouldn’t serve much of a purpose anyway.
So even like this, no, I’m no losing interest, I’m actually more interested…

I’ve been following since April 2006. I have other things to attend to (like my work and my family) and other games to play (like GTAiv) in the meantime. I still check in on the site - mostly in the off-topic section - once or twice a week.
When it comes out, I shall play it and doubtless be astonished at the sheer quantity of work on show. Then I shall doubtless carry on with my life (occasionally doing a complete series run through, starting from BM and ending wherever Valve have got to at that stage).
It’s a game, it’s honestly not that important to anyone (with the possible exception of the Devs, and that’s only for the moment), you won’t die if you don’t have it ASAP; indeed, I’ve survived remarkably well into my mid-30s without it and I have no doubt that I will reach a ripe old age even if it never comes out. (mind you, the silicosis/asbestosis/sawdustosis I’ve just inflicted on myself this weekend might take care of the old age bit… but I digress)
People who clamour for this have nothing better to do with their pathetic existences. Conversely people who claim that Balk Meas is ded [sic] have no faith in their fellow humans (which kind of makes you wonder what bad stuff’s happened to them, after all, most of them are about 14…). All in all, not a day goes by without some reinforcement of my belief that the human race is severely in need of a cull. :meh:
IMHO (and maybe I’m being harsh?) asking for a release date is stupid. This isn’t a commercial project. There isn’t a publisher threatening to pull funding and sack the lot of them if they don’t deliver by whenever. Unless it’s literally days before release they aren’t going to be able to give any sort of even remotely accurate release date, it’s not even a question of whether or not they want to.
I would however appreciate a bit of info about the overall progress of how development is going, where work is being concentrated, what needs to be done, etc. Regular media updates would be pretty cool and helpful, as it’s not only a matter of keeping current interest interested but also any newly interested folk coming to the site and seeing news posts newer than December 2009.
You know what would probably really hype everyone up and (re)spark interest, and something I’d personally like to see, is a video of the opening tram ride. That segment really doesn’t reveal a damned thing, but is almost universally considered one of the most unique segments in gaming history, and seeing it Balck Maes style in a short 2-minute clip (or what-have-you) would be awesome and make people all over the world come in their pants which would create an enormous freak flashflood of semen that will be remembered throughout human history.
Yeah I don’t check the forums as much anymore TBH, most things about the mod have been discussed to death by most of us. But this does not indicate I’m no less interested in Black Mesa, just that I have better things to do than post here every day.

It’s just difficult to find new things to talk about, especially with the lack of significant updates. I’ve kind of just decided to chill out and wait until we have a release date, I’m not sure what else to talk about on the forums at this point.
I’m sure the community will explode again once it’s actually released. I also hope that at some point multiplayer IS implemented, as that will increase the longevity of the game & community.
the community can go and explode all it likes. I’ll be PMing the devs with a “congratulations and thanks” message and that’ll be the end of my tenure here.
Yeah like others have said, less posting doesn’t correlate with less interest. Been checking the front page daily (unregistered) for over a year now, and I expect to keep checking daily for the rest of 2010 if that’s what it takes. There’s just not much new to talk about what with the devs seemingly busy working hard on the mod instead of crafting tantalizing updates for us to drool over.
In related news, I have no idea what compelled me to register just as any last hope of fresh mod-related discussion topics goes swirling down the drain. Guess I wanted to get in and start developing some forum cred so I can fulfill my dream of shooting down a n00b with a perfectly-timed “cool story, bro” just once before the mod gets released. :awesome:

To the op: I think there are a lot of lurkers out there like me who are still very interested, but just don’t really post or keep up with the forums anymore. I still check the website every single day to see if there are updates and am just as excited about the mod… I just don’t really have anything else to discuss in the forums that hasn’t already been said a million times already. I kinda stopped posting after the forum crash… but lost interest in the mod? No way.

Seriously, this should teach a lesson to all the trolls and shit posters that post discouraging stuff just to annoy and anger the people who is actually interested in the mod. If you are not interested, then why are you here bothering us in the first place? Just get away and go get a life. A very annoying one, I hope. Leave this place to who is really interested.
In case my earlier post was mis-interpreted, I’m not losing interest at all and I’m not asking for constant screenshot updates or anything. I just like to see posts on the site to know that it is still in the works. I’ve seen too many cool mods for other games just fall off the map and die that, even though I know this isn’t the case right now, I still worry a bit when I don’t see a post of any sort just saying hey, we made some headway, almost finished with such and such portion of the game, etc.
I have been checking the home page every day. Once it released, my face will explode, (much like meet the spy) and my corpse will dance around the room in tights. Then my face will reconstruct, i will download the game, and shit my pants in anger when my computer crashes on startup.

123 days late and counting…
I’m really new to this mod, about three month and first forum post, but this thread is what got me to post. I chill in a small Tejas town and I have turned at least 12 of my friends into loyal fans of the HL series and mods off the games and they like me will patiently till the release of the game when ever that might be because like most people will appreciate a fantastic game more than a polished turd.
Yes, I’ve played Black Mesa so many times, that I’ve lost interest in it.
I’ve been lurking around BM for years now and I’ve not lost interest at all. When it’s done, it’s done, and that’ll be far more than awesome.
I never posted, much less made an account, because I could get all the information (and more) from said lurking around.
