Loss of Interest in BM?

Thought I would chime in with a few of my thoughts on what I have read in this thread. I too have been watching here for years now, sure I have had to register on all the iterations the forums have gone through.

Regardless of delays I will always be interested in this mod, since it offers such a rich and enticing prospect of being able to play HL1 in a shiny new jacket.

But, I read a lot of people crying out against all the people with their back up because of the constants delays and lack of information, saying that the devs don’t owe anyone anything. I have a different view on this…

If you say your offering something, that is you making a pledge, one that people will expect only because you chose to say you would. Like if I walk up to you on the street and say “Wait here for an hour and I will be back to give you some money.” admittedly you aren’t losing anything, apart from maybe time which would be better spent doing something else. But you can’t really get away from the responsibility that you set the expectations in motion when you said you would do something.

I hope my point is understood, even though it could be written better.

Shut the hell up ssechaud! The devs don’t owe you anything you whiner!

It’s not like you have to waste your time waiting, there’s plenty of other things to do until the release.

Like good ol’ fashion pr0n

I know what you mean: it is important to be able to rely on someone’s word. Their reaction is understandable, though not logical in my opinion.

To explain the flaw in the logic: Being promised by the devs that they will get a free game in the future, some people have grown attached to the idea that they WILL play it, meaning they look forward to it SO much, they presuppose its existence AND by that the devs’ effort and numerous other factors involved in the development. They thus hope to gain something of real or virtual value (mainly entertainment which is IMO absolutely overemphasized in today’s culture anyway). They have mentally added something to their property, although it does not even exist. It is in a way a loss of reality, by neglecting the value of the present over that of the past. The devs have not promised something easy and here your comparison fails: They have not just promised to bring back some money in an hour, but they have promised to bring you a million dollars they yet have to earn in the course of the next years. (They literally could make a million or more if they sold the mod, of that I am certain.) To detach yourself from things you “really” possess is difficult enough, I do not think you should get attached to things you may or may not have at some point in the future.

But imagine this: one day you go to the front page of the board, and you will see a download link, and below it the following sentence: “Thanks to all the fans who supported us over the years and believed in our success”.

Then, after finishing off Nihilanth, you stand in front of a beautifully rendered G-Man. The credits roll and you see the same sentence again. Would you not feel ashamed knowing that somewhere in the BMS board you wrote that you were disappointed with the dev team? :frowning:

I’m sure the LEAD ANIMATOR is privy to the internal release date information, just like the rest of the team.

Hah … if there is not a confirmation from Jameskane or cmak then that info is worthless like all the previous ones

Sayid: You’d think they’d be here by now…
Charlie: Who?
Sayid: ANYONE!

Are you suggesting there are those that are on the team that do NOT know the planned release date? Really? REALLY? NO… really?!

Why JamesKane? He’s just a programmer, and according to the team page not even the lead programmer.

I never said that they don’t know they have an internal schedule you know and if you don’t you know now … that date(or the time around the end of 2010) is not official till the Leader of the team doesn’t confirm it …

Cmak is the project leader if you didn’t see it … and JamesKane bc if there isn’t a confirmation from 2 sources then I don’t think it is true and jameskane is relatively often on the forum than the others … hope that clears why …

the only thing Nate’s words suggest is that we should not expect the mod before the end of the year. He basically suggests to check back in december (or later)

The only thing it suggested (not confirmed) is that the mod will be out by the end of the year. That means it would be out at the end of the year or earlier.

You’re logic is flawed sir.

The way I am reading it is that you wont believe anyone on the team except for cman2k and JamesKane regarding the fact that there is an internal release date.

Other devteam members have stated there is in fact an internal release date, why are their comments less believable than the others? None of them have contradicted themselves and no one stepped up to say “ah yeah that isnt true” so why is it so important to you to only believe it if it comes from cman2k?

Or am I completely reading your statements wrong? Cuz I swear I have read your posts at least 8 times and I still cant figure out exactly what you are implying.

Umm you didn’t seem to get the point … I don’t believe anything that wasn’t confirmed by more than 2 devs or from the lead, it is interesting how you think that I don’t give them no weight what any dev says … from your statement I can clearly say that you will rather feed all the noobs with the satetment that the mod will be out this year rather than keeping them at ground not to give them so much hope … because if it won’t come out we will have spams of noob posts and threads of saying how this is a hoax etc. … if this is what you want be my guest but then don’t bitch yourself …

and If it still is such a sore eye then I’ll improve my statement confirmation from cman2k because he is the leader of the project … and confirmation from more than 2 developers you happy?

It’s CMAN2K for Christ’s sakes. I can understand that English is not your first language but at least try and get names correct.

It has been, so give it a rest, OK? Quite frankly, I don’t know why this thread is still open.

  1. has nothing to do with language
  2. by who?

Sorry, but I am still trying to find out what exactly you want confirmed. At first I thought you were saying you wanted more than one dev person to state “there is an internal release date” but now I am more inclined to think you want more than one dev to state “it is being released this year”. I will go with that.

TO WHICH this is just another clever way to try to get a dev to offer something outside of a “when it is done” statement but instead to offer an actual “date” of some sort. I say you wont get it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Nate’s comment doesn’t count cuz all he said in essence was “check back at the end of 2010” and “eat your spaghetti o’s”

You are totaly… WRONG … I’m not asking about any details about the release date … since you haven’t understand my last post on the previous page either you are blind, naive, ignorant or just another troll.
