Looks like we can expect Half Life 3 rather than Episode 3

I can see HL3 in 2012-2013

I don’t care what it is as long as its Half-Life and from Valve.

Well, the Combine are still alive and well at the end of Episode 2 (they’re probably mighty pissed that you destroyed the Citadel and their connection to their homeworld).

Half-Life 1 did not feature the Combine at all. It was all Black Mesa and Xen. Half-Life 2 was all Combine. Half-Life 3 should not have Combine except as a reference (such as the references to the BMRF); it should have an entirely new kind of enemy. We haven’t finished with the Combine yet; we need to address that before going to Half-Life 3.

There is literally no reason to not have Combine in HL3, that’s like saying that Iron Man 1 had only Iron Man, and Iron Man 2 also had War Machine, therefore, War Machine must not be present in the sequel to Iron Man 3.

Well, what about this; the Overwatch soldiers were the main enemy of Half-Life 2; a bunch of humans converted into a weird bio-soldier by Combine technology. Technically, we haven’t fought very many of the Combine themselves, if we consider them to be those Advisors and the ilk. I’m not saying fight a bunch of telekinetic fatsos, but whatever was on the other side of that portal everyone was so scared of - that’s probably our new enemy.

Or, if Aperture Science was hiding much darker secrets than GLADOS and its homicidal test chambers, maybe it would be related to that. Eli made comments about how Aperture’s ship, the Borealis, should have been lost forever.

Yeah & there’s no reason the Gluon Gun, Xen, the US Military, Bullsquids, Houndeyes, Snarks, Gargantuas & the Black Mesa Research Facility won’t be in Half-Life 2… oh shi-:retard:

What does that mean though?

Half-Life 1: Main Enemy: Xenians
Half-Life 2: Main Enemy: Combine
Half-Life 3: Main Enemy: ???
[COLOR=‘Black’]Half-Life 4: Main Enemy: Sequelitis?

That’s not any basis for a pattern though, you’d need more than just two full games to make something like that out. I do think that there will be different enemies in HL3, I don’t know how it will work with the story though, but what I’m saying is there is still no reason for the Combine to not be the main enemies of HL3, maybe some of their other races or their homeworld will come into play?

I’m thinking HL3 will have more combine, but none of them the transhuman combine soldiers from HL2.

This^

I always thought the plan was to make a full fledged game, as they wanted the series to end with a bang?

I think they will start with Gordon finding the Borealis, doing something with the huge portal thing that moved the Borealis, and then having to deal with the effects, which should make up the majority of the game. I wouldn’t be surprised if the portal opens up some big link between the Combine homeworld or another alien race’s home planet, and so the majority will be fighting proper aliens, rather than just Overwatch soldiers.

To me, thats a hard sell.

Sure, whoop-de-fucking-do, you found the Boreallis.

But the Combine have mother-fucking starships.

They’ll be back.

Now, transhumans? Ok, you might have something there. I’d like to see more Synths.

I read the article and it sounds very encouraging. I don’t want JUST another Episode either. I know a lot of people are anxious for anything Half Life even if it means episodes. But this will be much better. Thanks for the tip.

I hope this game is extremely long.

Edit: This also makes it more likely for a new engine with this new game  .

Maybe a new game engine would be introduced for a full fledged game?
That would be awesome but I’m not holding nor am I going to hold my breath. Well, maybe just a little bit.

I want Ep.3 to become a full game like Half-Life 2 so badly. I’d probably start crying the moment the first map finished loading. :jizz:

Major respect if you can last that long. I’ll be crying as soon as valve make the announcement.

To everyone talking about the ‘main enemy’ for each game: isn’t it believed that the combine have been part of the story since the first game?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
