“Old games” newer than 2000. I scoff at this notion.
If you’re into puzzle games, Myst and it’s sequel Riven. They’re older point and click and the first few games I ever played. Great stories and fun to just play and wind down with. Not quite “Old” but Fable the Lost Chapters was an incredibly enjoyable Fantasy RPG as well.
I’d have to recommend the first two Fallout games. The sense of immersion is leagues beyond the more recent shooter-type Fallouts, and there’s no constant hand-holding. It may take a little while to get used to the combat system but believe me they are the types of games that you will not get bored of quickly. Playing the old Fallouts is like watching an ad for the first iPhone - even though the tech is completely outdated, you are still as blown away as the people were at the time.

Not quite the Doom category, but it’s from an old game and it’s awesome…
It’s an open-source “enhanced” version of C&C: Red Alert AND the original C&C with internet multiplayer (but no campaign).
It supports modern resolutions and custom soundtracks, and since the games are freeware now, it’s completely legal. I tried it today and I didn’t have to wait long for some people to join my game, so I’m guessing it has a decent community.

Guys I’m having some epic problems with System Shock 2 :
I got through the starting error easily with a patch and an XP fix, but after that came a lot bigger problem. The game freezes as soon as I enter the menu. I start the game, it works fine, as soon as I enter the menu to save or to change display or controlls or anything, and want to return to the game, it stops and nothing works, no ctrl+alt+del, no AltF4, no windows button, no nothing. I tried to google it but people don’t seem to experience the same thing I do. Any advice on that?
Edit: I run it on a “slow” pc, which I built for playing old games, so no dual or quad core, no epic video card, it’s a simple oldie PC which is good for these type of games, so the affinity error(changing from 2 core to 1) is not the issue here.

have you gotten the latest patches? I had a problem with Thief 1/2 that i fixed by changing the video settings… try playing around with those
Yep, as I said I patched up to the latest and got an XP fix also
