Looking for good old games

How the fuck did I forget to mention Thief? Seriously, get that. Thief is great, and Thief 2 is greater.

Also, I second Another World(Out of this World for americans) and Flashback. Those are both amazing games.

Also Dark Forces and Jedi Knight: DF2 are really good retro star wars FPSes too. Jedi Knight has sabers and especially good level design.

Going to try out System Shock 2, and Thief first, after that I’ll check the other most recommended games, thanks Y’all again! Oh and keep it coming :stuck_out_tongue:

I could swear we’ve had a thread for people to suggest games to nostalgia-fags like 30 different times now.

Since no one has mentioned Tie Fighter…fucking Tie Fighter. Get the 95 version, it has updated visuals and VO. But you need a Joystick or a gamepad to play it.

My List:

Warcraft II
Hexen
Wolfenstein 3D
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Diablo II
Sam & Max: Hit the Road
X-Com: UFO Defense
American McGee’s Alice
Space Quest VI
Rise of the Triad
Descent

Starcraft
Dungeon Keeper II
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2
Nox
Call of Duty
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
Operation: Flashpoint
Soldier of Fortune

Freespace 2, It’s a space sim that has gone into major overhaul by its community. It is on GoG.com, here is the page for it, and the community forums:

Soldier of Fortune II (satisfying gunplay, best gore in a game ever). Best of the trilogy IMO. Then again, considering the third game was… Payback… ugh.

Planetside (assuming there’s still that many players, haven’t checked). It’s free, and it’s got an amazing looking f2p sequel coming out.

Speaking of good old free games, Gore. It’s like a mix between counterstrike and Unreal, with pretty nice MP levels in a cyberpunk locale. I mean, the campaign is dumb fun, but it’s just the MP levels put in a line with some AI scattered around, and stuffed into a dumb cop story. The music is pretty cool though.

??? How do I get it to be free? I’ve literally have been searching for a month to find it free, SOE is trying to charge me a crappy monthly fee of like $20 for a 10 year old game… they seriously need to let go.

Also, Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger, I heard it was good, gonna try it out myself today.

That series really needs a proper revival. If Raven themselves couldn’t do it, maybe Rockstar could buy the IP and finally make their first FPS.

I think SoF 1 is where the Modern CoD’s got their story from

I mean it’s basically the same thing

Eh, not really. CoD is all about global conflicts. SoF is on a much smaller scale, with a more personal stake, like an 80’s action movie.

also the main objective was to blow off limbs

If you’re into Survival horror FPS, i’d suggest (Clive Barker’s) Undying.
The game won GameSpot’s 2001’s “Best game that no one played” award.

It sold poorly despite very positive reviews (https://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/clive-barkers-undying), however the atmosphere impressed me bigtime like Unreal and Half-Life did when I first played them. It genuinely felt like Alone In The Dark 1, but as an FPS.

I meant with all the nukes and stuff, not about the story as a whole

though i suppose that’s not specific to SoF

Gore and SoF were both fun imo.
also: outcast.

Arcanum, one of the best point and click RPG I ever played.

It need a good sequel

Outlaws an old but awesome game!

P.S Very old

Good old games, regardless of platform:

Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
Metal Gear Solid
Xenogears
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES

(Is there an age ceiling on “old games” in this thread?)

Soldier of Fortune with its dismemberment and Euphoria animations.
