Let's Talk About Television

Anybody here still watch a bit of TV every now and again? After the internet started getting mainstream it seems none of my friends watch TV anymore, not even for entertainment.

So let’s talk about it.

I freaking love It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. There, now it’s your turn.

it sucks, that’s all I have to say

All of your firends suck.

I like television. Recently, I’ve been watching… Ah…

Now that I think about it, I haven’t actually touched our TV in months. There’s nothing I’m eager to watch.

I watch tv shows, but not on the tv.

wait, what the fuck is a firend?

Same for me. I generally fetch an entire series at a time and watch through it over the course of a few days to half a year. Currently almost done with Blake’s 7.

It’s probably been three or four years since I actually sat down in front of the telly and actually watched something.

I use my TV to watch shows, purely because we have netflix and an apple TV (I’m still not sure why the Wii didn’t cut it for that)

game of thrones yay

Simpsons, and any good movies that are on, that’s about it.

edit: and how could I forget STNG, but I’ll soon have the whole series on HDD.

I only watch a couple television shows, and even then I don’t watch them on TV.

Person of Interest is the best show on television right now. It’s just impossible to describe how fucking great that show is. Do yourselves a favor and watch it, it’s just pure unleaded awesome.

My television only comes on to play the occasional console game and to watch episodes of “The Big Bang Theory”. Yeah, I know there are a lot of opinions about the show, but I like it and that’s all that matters to me.

I watch TV on my phone mostly… I know a few sites that stream live satellite tv channels, luckily I have unlimited 3g download.

You’re a bad person and you should feel bad.

I don’t. Hah!

I tried watching that show several times thanks to praise from some of my friends. At it’s best it got a slight chuckle under my breath out of me, but at it’s worst it was physically painful to sit through.

I considered the thought that I could have caught parts of episodes that were just generally worse than others each time, but I decided to settle on the notion that some of my friends have a pretty dumb sense of humor.

I don’t have cable or satellite. I just hooked up my computer to my 42" TV and use Plex to watch the shows I like.

Every evening I try to watch a 45+min deeper show and then a lighter lulz-show before hitting the hay.

Longer stuff I’m currently trying to keep up with:

  • Breaking Bad
  • Boardwalk Empire
  • Justified
  • Treme
  • Sons of Anarchy
  • Walking Dead
  • Grimm (you can’t judge me!)

Silly shit I watch after one of the previous shows:

  • How I Met Your Mother
  • Californication
  • Big Bang Theory
  • Robot Chicken (often rewatch it)
  • Invader Zim (often rewatch it)
  • Blackadder 2-3-4 (fuck 1)

As far as 21 minute sitcoms go, the only ones I follow anymore are 30 Rock and Parks & Rec. They’re both fading, but I think that comes with the territory. If anyone is curious, seasons 1-3 of 30 Rock are superb (and 4-6 are pretty good, too) and seasons 2-3 of Parks & Rec are great as well.

As for the 40+ dramas, I tend to stick to Breaking Bad. I tried very hard to get into Mad Men and Walking Dead, but they just can’t hold my interest. Game of Thrones season 1 was excellent, but I haven’t gotten around to season 2 after hearing lukewarm responses and seeing cringe-worthy acting on Youtube.

Cartoons:
I’ve watched the full runs of Archer, Frisky Dingo, and Venture Bros. more times than I can remember. Now that Spongebob is on Netflix, I’m rediscovering how brilliant the first few seasons of that show were.
