Launch Details Discussion

Hi all.

I am new to posting on these forums, but I have been lurking since I saw the trailer back in 2008.

All I have to say is THANK F**K FOR THAT. IT IS FINALLY BEING RELEASED.

(Meant in the best humour only ofc).

Now all I gotta do is survive to the fated day and I will be a happy and made man.

Knowing my luck and law (according to Messers Murphy and Sod) I will prolly die of a heart attack at work on the day it is released and my laptop will fry as the ambulance driver grabs my things…

If you plan to use torrent, can we get torrent file a day/couple hours before release?

Err, why would that matter when you get it?

I can open torrent and go sleep, Black Mesa will download automatically.

Or go to sleep when you get the torrent on release day, or something. What’s the point of giving a release time if you’re going to distribute it earlier than that?

distribute torrent, not a mod.

A torrent which will download the mod, same thing.

really? who’s gonna seed?

I’ll take a wild guess and say that it probably will be the developers, and perhaps some extra people.

nope. devs wont seed until release - thats obvious
but torrent file technically could be distributed earlier

Distributing the torrent ahead of time is helpful for anyone who wants their download to start immediately, even if they are not around at the time of release. With regards to who will be initial seeds:

Agreed. I think its obvious the dev team and any close confidants will be prepared to seed come release. Im waiting for confirmation since torrent will probably be my means of downloading.

I think it’s more of the fact that you can’t just “butt” in line, as it were. If you’re going to be away from the Internet at launch, then you’ll have to wait until you’re back to download the torrent file or whatever, then begin downloading.

Just like everyone else.

Of course they won’t seed until release - I meant they will be the ones who will seed on release, alongside some other people, probably.

why?

Yup

Because it’s fair. A lot of people will be waiting to download the mod, and it will most likely be a first come, first serve kind of thing. If you’re away from the internet, get someone to download it for you, or stay up all night and spam F5 until you get a download ticket. It’s how it works.

That awkward moment when all of this will become irrelevant once it’s on Steam.

Of course, I’m assuming there will be enough upvotes on Steam Greenlight.

When a game developer releases their game they don’t give you a copy (assuming it’s non-digital) early just because you might not be available to get one the second it’s released. You just have to wait.

Personally I think that making something harder to other(who cant wait’n press download button by themselves) is stupid thinking - but that’s just me.

They will have to wait. Such is life. As I said, if they can’t, they’ll have to get someone to do it for them, or be patient like everybody else.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
