Launch Details Discussion

We want to make sure all of you are ready for the big day. If you don’t already know, Black Mesa will require the FREE Source SDK Base 2007 to run. If you are not too sure that you have Source SDK Base 2007 installed or you don’t own any source based games, please click here to download and install the Source SDK Base via Steam for FREE.

I know many of you loyal Half Life fans are planning on taking a vacation day from work, calling out sick for school, or even both. We are working very hard to ensure your day off does not go in vain, and that every person trying to download Black Mesa will undergo a smooth and fast downloading experience. The approximate download size will be 3.03 GB, 8 GB uncompressed. At launch, a launch pad will be available offering multiple mirrors and options for download. These options shall be revealed during launch. So go ahead, take that day off and join us!

We know you all are very excited and we want to you share your gameplay experiences as soon as you finish playing. We also want to make sure to collect any bug reporting and get any resolved as quickly as possible. With that being said, the forums shall be moved to it’s own separate server. So when you are finished re-visiting Black Mesa, we’ll be here to hear all about it.

We are very excited and we are counting down the days right along with you!

I know I’m prepared. I have far too many Source mods to pretty much ever uninstall the HL2 series.

I have an unopened Orange Box that I won from one of PlanetPhilips giveaways… should I give it away (and mail it, I guess) to the poor sap with the saddest story of why he doesn’t own a requesite game? I am cool with this, if anyone is really desperate… (preferrably north america)

I have tested that Black Mesa works with only Source SDK Base 2007 installed. Source SDK Base 2007 is free with all Steam accounts.

Great man

I own almost every Valve game there is, so I guess I´m set on the required software front. Now here´s to hoping the game will run decently on my shitty laptop as well. I plan to do my second play though on a slow day at work. I can play HL2:Ep 2 fairly well on low settings. Does the game support low widescreen resolutions by any chance like Ep. 2 does?

If Source Supports it i’m sure BM will.

It even supports 360 controllers

I have HL2 and Ep1, and someone gifted me Ep2 a while ago (someone on this forum, don’t remember who, sorry), so I think I’m prepared. Still haven’t played Ep2 though, I wanted to play BM-Ep2 (with a new ending and beginning), but with Xen missing, I don’t know if I will :frowning:

Oh, that would be great when I want to play it on my Big Screen.

Okay - but in the spirit of giving and receiving, my offer is still good… but I want this thing to go to someone (in North America, please) who rents movies from the public library, treats themself to a Big Mac™ on payday and volunteers at the animal shelter on days off… etc etc. Not some spoiled-rich-kid-puke that wants it for modding into a novelty bong…

you could always just give them the CD key to put into Steam and turf the physical copy.

yeah - you’re right… forgot about that!.. let the sad-ass stories begin…

To recap: One unopened Orange Box (physical copy if North America - CD key if otherwise… this is PC, btw) to the most deserving gamer, that lacks the means to buy an Orange Box… as I stated before, I want this to go to: [COLOR=‘Gray’]someone who rents movies from the public library, treats themself to a Big Mac™ on payday and volunteers at the animal shelter on days off… etc etc. Not some spoiled-rich-kid-puke that wants it for modding into a novelty bong…

And if no one ends up entering the contest, I will place it in a time capsule, for future archaeologists to enjoy…

This thread should be stickied for the new guys. Also what else can one do to get ready?

  • Stash up chips n coke!
  • have the doc lay you a catheter, so you won’t have to go to the toilet
  • break up with girlfriend/get a divorce from wifey
  • ducktape the dog and kidz
  • shut out broad daylight with wooden planks
  • call in sick for at least a week
  • turn off doorbell

Have I forgotten anything?

Pay all of your bills by next Thursday… especially the electric bill!!!

Thank you very much for the heads-up. It’s rare to see any project team give people some key advance information…much appreciated!

I think everything is getting ready for the day

“The time is 8:47 AM. Current topside temperature is 83 degrees with an estimated high of 105.”

The BMRF is kept at a pleasant 68 degrees at all times.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
