Launch Details Discussion

I stayed up all night for the release of Portal 2.

As i said, i think thats stupid

(you didnt had to repeat, understood at the first time)

That’s fine if you think it’s stupid. I have to wait just like you do.

Im not thinking about myself, i have no problem with being here THEN

Glad to hear!

If everybody has their bittorrent program set up to download as soon as it’s out, the download speed WILL be affected at the start.

Doubt it, maybe in a few first minutes only.

Although with digital games there is the possibility of preloading. There was a suggestion to zipfile the installer with a pw-protection to be able to distribute it now an give the people who want to seed the pw on release.
That of course is too fucking dangerous, because you’ve always got some smarty pants cracking that thing before it’s time.

So we’ll all have to wait eventually, as the Internet will catch on fire, as soon as the gates to the mod open up.

There’s a safe way to do that. You pack the mod into several parts and put only 90% of the parts for download. Then noone can extract the mod before the rest gets released.
But it’s still not safe enough. You can unpack the parts you already have so you end up with most of the assets from the mod which can be ducttaped into a frankenstein version of black mesa.

I have this REALLY bad feeling about Greenlight. I can picture there being anywhere from 80 to 90 percent of the votes required when the 14th comes, and the developers realizing that it would be far more effective to get greenlighted than distribute with mirrors/torrents. I leave for BCT and AIT two days after the 14th, technically three, but I only have two days to goof off. I am almost certain this is going to happen and it’s freaking me out. I need to play this… and I can’t just wait seven months to play it…

Ninja edit: I want Greenlight to happen. Greenlight is awesome! I just don’t want to have it delayed so I literately can’t play it.

The game is still set to release on the 14th. Greenlight plays no factor into this. The very first post explains how there will be many mirrors and download options on day one.

Did you also upload the mod onto filehoster websites like uploaded.to or share-online.biz?

Hell no.

sad kaddo

but why “hell no?”
What’s bad about those?

Didn’t uploaded.to get shutdown or something?.
Also MediaFire / GameFront are currently the best 2 file hosts I know of.

those sites are horrendously slow, plus don’t they require you to buy an account to upload/download files over certain sizes?

Exactly, and in some cases in the users agreement you surrender your right of IP on the uploaded media to the site.

I’m pretty sure Hubi and the gang have their own set of internal mirrors that should tide us over.

Correct.

and torrent confirmed.

At the time of release, and if its still doing it, just go to release.blackmesasource.com the page will be active on release or something

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
