L4D Series: Overrated and Waste of Development Time

L4D is an amazing game and I’m sure they are working on HL2: EP3.

L4D is probably the first game I can think of that really tried to create the perfect online co-op experience, at the same time attempted to have incredible replayability, and reinvent the idea of characterization and story development in an only multiplayer game. I would consider it a total success, and hope other companies take some inspiration from it. Co-op like this is just so well done.

Wrong. VALVe took in a homeless man and he still works there till this day. That man currently owns a house now thanks to VALVe. You may know the man as the voice actor for Dr. Eli Vance, Robert Guillaume.

Also, L4D rocks and I play both constantly. STFU Troll bitch.

Voice Acting and game programming and designing are two ENTIRELY different things. Who they hire as voice actors and what they have those voice actors doing isn’t going to have any effect on what you are crying about.

WHAT?

EDIT:
Re-read what I was responding to.

I think he’s saying that voice acting is something that comes more naturally and requires less training than programming.

That wasn’t my point. My point was that JeffMOD said they don’t hire people off the street and in fact they do. I never said anything about programming or “cried” about anything as Dino stated.

Left 4 Dead had a different way of story telling. Example, writings on the walls, bodies on the floor covered up with blankets. If you take time to listen to the commentary, you can learn a thing or two.

This is the same guy who’s “dying” from cancer, same guy who says he hates L4D2 in the L4D2 thread and a large variety of ass-hattery. Don’t take this guy seriously.

Robert Guillaume:

the man they “hired” was Larry Heard, a man from Redmond, washington. From what i understand, they just took a picture of him, i never heard about them buying him a house though (That’s cool, if true).

OOPS! good call on the name. Copied the wrong name. Larry “The Count” Heard

Exactly. The point of the post you were quoting was that they don’t hire people who aren’t capable of doing the job right. The guy they hired was perfectly qualified for exactly what they hired him for, therefore he doesn’t support your argument.

OK, I understand. I’m sorry that you’re going to die before you get to play Episode 3. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy Valve’s other games…

you do realize that Episode 3 is the third sequel of the sequel to the game that put valve on the fucking MAP. Don’t you?
if Gabe Newell wants to focus attentions elsewhere like say with Left 4 Dead (whose bot characters still exhibit about the intelligence of a flea) let them, they’ll get around to development of Half-life 2 Episode 3 on their own time

they are still working on it…they never stopped for l4d. Gabe even said they’ve been working on it consistantly, they just didn’t want it to be another EP2 thing where they released a teaser that represented a story/game that would have a lot of changes made.

My god there was a drop in intelligence today. The point of the post that I was quoting was that “VALVe don’t hire people off the streets,” because that’s what he SAID. My post was arguing that they do… Because they DID. Being capable of doing a job right has nothing to do with it. They hired him because they felt bad for him. Do you think he sat there on the side of the road with a sign saying “Needs job. Has extensive experience in modeling, portraiture, and related jobs” and as people drive by he hands out resumes and refers them to a website? They brought him in out of the kindness of their hearts and gave him a chance without any knowing if he would work out.

I hate when people don’t get what they want so they complain about what’s there instead.

Damnit.

Shit’s boring no matter what anyone says.

I was given L4D2 as a gift. Played it three times, haven’t touched it since.

Either you are trolling, or you’re not very good at coaxing people to your point of view, or you decided to rant to a bunch of people who don’t know who you are. All my best wishes to you sir, and good luck on the endeavor!

How can I coax people to my point of view when they are all set in their ways?

Tell me how this game isn’t boring, please. I was entertained by the new melee weapons but that got old fast. I don’t see where the claims of incredible replayability come from. Zombies/specials spawn in different places every time, oh wow!

There’s no point arguing with this fellow, if you ever ever ever make his point null he’ll retort with “faggot”.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
