L4D Series: Overrated and Waste of Development Time

Hire me Valve, I will work 18 hours a day on the only game true fans care about.

The Half-Life series.

Best single player games ever.
Best story in a video game ever. In fact, the only story I have ever cared about in any video game.

There is so much to the HL series. I’m saddened to see that they put development time in to something their real fans don’t even care about.

HL2: Raising the Bar is the most inspiring book I own. Nothing about the L4D series can compare to that.

I think your plea will probably fall on deaf ears here…In either case with games there is a trade off between story and replayability, especially for multiplayer titles. That, and the fact that Valve makes a good lot of $ off of the L4D series…well…that gives them more padding to do awesome experiments with single player. Do you expect them to make Half-Life games as long as they are in business as their only projects?

Gabe told me to tell you “no”
They’re still working on Episode 3, and you can bet your ass it’ll have more tech advances than L4D2. However, the L4D series is not a waste of time, it gave the world the AI director, and a heavily storied Coop with realistic characters.

Just wait, Episode 3 will be out in no time.
Hmm. Ninja’d.

Besides, Valve doesn’t just hire anyone off the streets. You need a portfolio worthy of the company’s attention.
Like Rabid here.

you do realize L4D was developed by the Turtle Rock team. Valve hasn’t stopped working on episode three, it’s just that it’s apparently an ambitious project and i’d assume they’ve put a lot of planning/revision into it.

Obviously.

Where did I say I didn’t have one?

It’s too bad L4D is heavily lacking in both story and replayability.

The fact that you’re applying for a non-existant job on a mod forum would suggest that you don’t have exactly a complete understanding of what is required.

I was 100% serious with that “hire me” line, obviously.

too late to cover yourself up now.

Wtf do I have to cover up, jackass?

EPIC FACEPALM. (too lazy to find a suitable pic)

The L4Ds haven’t actually taken up that much dev time, the original was made mostly by Turtle Rock before being bought by Valve. Even then, it was mostly the original team working on it. It was probably ported to a current dev build of Source, which was already in development for Ep3. L4D2 was built in less than a year with features that were probably developed for Ep3.

Plus, Valve has multiple development teams. They can work on multiple games at the same time. If all of their resources were on one game, it would never get finished.

That’s just your opinion, a lot of people beg to differ :stuck_out_tongue:

few million people, bscly

Almost everyone that has ever played a L4D game, in fact.

Its heavily lacking in story…which is the point. Its supposed to be a kind of mindless violence video game with no story. That’s like criticising chocolate cake for not having enough vegetables in it.

As for replayability? Terrain is more or less the same, true, but each replay is different enough to keep me interested.

Replayability is great in l4d. Each time different things happen at different places. With l4d2 even the level layout can change. L4d didn’t have a huge story line (but there was one) l4d2 tops it off with character development as the campaigns progress (I.e. Characters introducing themselves in the elevator of the hotel)

I seriously hope Ep 3 has all that sweet, sweet animation tech from the L4D series.

I’d love to see Ep3 still, I don’t start dissing L4D or L4D2 in fact, I’m gonna buy L4D2 for my brother for Christmas

Off: Maxey, I clicked on the German fag, and I got disappointed. I was hoping for a little beating game :frowning:

@OP: L4D one and two are both awesome games and they are not a waste of Valve’s time or money. IMO Valve makes some of the best multiplayer games and shouldn’t be restricted to just the HL series.

Yes, Half-Life can suck it. It’s not Half-Life’s fault that it can potentially become boring as shit after a while.

Every game gets boring if you play it too often

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
