Actually the one thing source does well is run video games with lots of different textures at high frame rates, so lots of computers can run it.

The AK47 handles exactly like the M4 from L4D1.
Yes, but is there special ammo that can set zombies on FIRE?!
No? Then Left 4 Dead 2 is worth every penny in that $50 price tag!
First Pong bringing gaming to the masses, then Mario 64 brining gaming to the 3rd Dimension, and now Left 4 Dead 2’s innovative ammo that sets zombies on fire. It’s truly the next step in gaming evolution. You should be happy to be alive in this magical time in gaming history. All 40,000+ of you.
Is anyone else tired of this joke yet? Well too bad! Because I’m going to beat this dead horse until I experience this marvelous gaming innovation myself!!
Whatever.
That was a tad anti-climactic. But awesome nonetheless.
I don’t see what’s wrong with Left 4 Dead 2. Obviously, Valve felt they left something out of the first one, and wanted to throw some new stuff into another installment. They must be adding quite alot for it to warrant it’s own title and not just an update…
I wonder, would it be possible to make a plug-in to make a clip of ammo that sets things on fire?
Seriously what are valve doing, L4D1 is dark and gritty, film grain etc. It was even darker in it’s beta stages. Now we have supremely goofy characters and new special infected that look like they came from a special school. Are they actually trying to go for some sort of humorous “har har, retarded southern hick zombie” feel? All the original infected looked at least somewhat menacing, even the boomer was in proportion for an immensely fat ball of lard and the tank appeared to be like some sort of steroid crazed muscle man. Now we have some zombie that looks like a thalidomide baby gone wrong and some albeit disgusting, but retarded looking ET lookalike.
I’m seriously pretty disappointed, TF2 is great, it’s humor is awesome, Portal is great, and it’s humor is awesome, L4D is great, and it’s slightly darker humor is awesome. This, on the other hand fails, imho. Lets hope they don’t fuck up EP3 trying to include comedic turrets and robots from aperture science as well.
Carbon14, that’s absolute rubbish. For a start, the characters in L4D1 aren’t exactly dark and gritty themselves. I mean, Francis saying he hates everything? Zoey talking about movies, and how the zombies aren’t canon? Sure, they have their serious moment, plenty of them. But then, I imagine the characters in L4D2 will.
I don’t see how they’re going for ‘some sort of humorous “har har, retarded southern hick zombie” feel’. Haven’t seen any evidence of that in the gameplay, or the trailers.
The new special infected look terrifying, to be frank, just as scary as the ones in L4D1. They sure as hell don’t look stupid.
Seems to me like you’re just looking for something to bitch about because they didn’t announce EP3, since you didn’t actually say anything worth while, you just spouted angry opinion based on nothing.
Left 4 Dead was never ‘scary’, IMO. Games like Doom 3, Dead Space, various FEARS were scary. Left 4 Dead was and is a good game to be shure, mowing down waves of zombies with relentless machine gun fire, but it never seemed to be aimed at scaring players.
Personally games you stated above were never scary to me. Things jumping into my face never really made me jump. But The Path scared the shit out of me tho.
I should give The Path a try, because I found Doom 3, Dead Space and FEAR almost laughable in their attempts to be scary.
Also, the Spitter is far creepier then any of the specials from the first game IMHO.
Haha, the games not even out and people are writing it off.
Watch out tho, it’s not the kind of horror everybody’s used to. I’d describe it as psychological horror. It’s at the same time beautiful and disturbing. But you’ll see for yourself if you try it.
Not exactly nothing. From the previews I can see the charger has a silly looking gimpy arm, I can see coach looks like he couldn’t outrun a turtle, I can see Ellis is portrayed as a dimwit happy go lucky type, I can hear the farcical sounding horde music. This however is my own opinion and other people evidently like those things. Definitely just not my type of game, L4D had a great style, L4D2 just looks like a poorly thought out funny mod at the moment from my point of view. Don’t even get me started on magical burning bullets
Good, because the kind of horror everybody’s used to is usually utter crap.
