Korsakovia Mod

So, I downloaded the Korsakovia mod for HL2.

Apparently, the latest Source engine update messed it up and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to fix the problem? I am seeing glowing ERROR messages as well as purple-black checkerboard textures on some objects.

See this picture for an example:

Is there a fix I can do on my end or do I have to wait for the devs to fix it? The MODDB board suggests to fiddle with the settings for Garry’s Mod, but I don’t have that. Any ideas?

restart steam. and maybe uninstall korsakovia and reinstall.

Wow, I’m glad you had a problem with this. Looks very interesting and the demo video.

Tried that and it didn’t work. :frowning:

Do you recall if those textures are reflective? I know I would get that look if I alt+tabbed and would come back in game from time to time with reflections giving off that 60s checkerboard look. I would assume you posted on the mod site too yeah?

I have no idea if those surfaces are reflective or not, having never played the game before. I didn’t ask at MODDB because it looks like they’ve already got that well in hand. I asked here because, well, there are very excellent people here modding HL2 so they might have additional input.

Did you attempt at adjusting video settings?

It’s not video, AFAIK, because there are doors that are now “ERROR” blocks that I can just walk through without opening. There’s a smoke monster that chases you and if you walk through an ERROR-door, the smoke monster cannot enter and goes away. But, yes, I changed the video settings and nada.

See the lock on the other side of the “door”?

It’s got to do with valve messing around the the HL2 updates, you’ll have to manually extract the missing resources from the GCF’s to the mods folder.

Worth a try:

"I think I found a way to fix it, it worked for me…

  1. Delete the “\orange box\bin” folder
  2. Delete the “\orange box\garrysmod\bin” folder
  3. Run hldsupdatetool to update garry’s mod data: "hldsupdatetool -command update -game garrysmod -dir "

found it on the moddb site, in one of the comments…

Did anyone manage to play this through without cheating? I thought it was really atmospheric and a brilliant idea but batshit crazy hard.

I beat it without cheating. It required a LOT of reloading. Not so much because of the enemies, but because of trying to climb up all the damn floaty stuff. The invisible shriekers freaked me out like nobody’s business until I finally figured out exactly what they were.

Not sure if you got the problems solved, but yeah valve making updates really screwed up a lot of mods. On the steam forums there is a thread discussing some of the fixes.

Fixes For Broken Mods

Have you tried verifying your HL2 files through the STEAM options?

I Haven’t played it since the update… hmmm… now that you mention it, something’s not right here… (OH MY GOD JC ! A BOMB !) It fucked up for me too :frowning:

Did no one read my post?

[COLOR=‘Red’]THE HALF LIFE TWO UPDATES SCREWED UP MOST OF THE MODS OUT THERE. VERY FEW HL2 MODS WERE SPARED.

Go to that link for more info on how to fix the problems for each mod.

If you are running a gmod dedicated server, then that’s your solution.

I didn’t really read it through, it didn’t work for the dev of the mod either, he just said it was worth a try.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
