Kelly Bailey has left Valve?

Guess what guys! It looks like Kelly Bailey, the main composer of HL soundtrack, is no longer working at Valve. I’m really concerned about the future of HL series now. I just can’t imagine any HL game without Bailey’s music.

EDIT:
For anyone interested in Bailey’s departure from Valve, check out this interview with Mike Morasky: https://www.podcast17.com/interviews/audio/mike-morasky/

Bummer. Maybe he’ll still do the music as a contractor.

He actually left Valve some time ago already. L4D and TF2’s composer will take over his position however.

Awwww. I hate to see him go, he did some of Valve’s best music.

it is sad news for HL

He was 1 of 4 people who Freeman was modeled after. A composite face for a model that was never even used. (Ok, well, except for the concept art)

when I got my first phone I had hl2 track34 as my ringtone

He was working at Valve since the very beggining. They should at least made some announcement, so the fans would know about this. Just like they did with Robert Culp. (Yeah, I know it’s different, because he died, but still - RIP Robert Culp)

They should hire Joel Nielsen to replace him.

Damn shame, half-life had some great music.

That’s probably why Episode 2’s music was so bad comparatively.

hmm… well he DID compose the music for ep. 2 too. Maybe he was used to the gritty man made/ empty building theme like HL1-HL2 ep.1? I wouldn’t know until it came straight from the horses… err Freeman’s mouth, but I doubt he wants to speak about it. I really liked all the VALVe soundtracks equally, could turn out for the better for the audio department there.

EP2’s soundtrack was the best. What the hell is wrong with you?

Not that the songs were bad individually (I won’t argue that they ROCKED), but they were all so similar that they all blended into a mush, and I kinda got tired of it.

EP2’s had no soundtrack. What the hell is wrong with you?

Thank god. Better off that way.

Damn shame. He was a musical genius. I listen to Vortal Combat from EP2 daily, it makes life sound awesome.

Valve won’t settle for anyone below a comparison of his talent, tho, so I’m not worried ^^

Left 4 Dead and TF2 have soundtracks far superior to that of Half-Life.

Superior how? The HL soundtrack fits the game very well. You can’t know if the new guy is able to make music that fits as well.

Also, the Left 4 Dead soundtrack was basically just 100 variations of the same tune.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
