You should’ve played it vanilla, so the impact of HL2’s graphics is even bigger.
I don’t know any hi-res texture packs for opforce or blue shift. They don’t look that bad that you can’t play, unless you’ve got a 32" screen that is.
And don’t mod HL2 and the episodes. I have yet to see a mod that would actually make them better in any way.
As for gman, search the forums, there should be plenty of discussions about him. Bear in mind that those discussions will contain a shitload of spoilers for the games, of course.

Nobody should suck a game’s cock so hard that they can’t bring themselves to modify it.
Most skins and shit aren’t for improvement, they’re to make certain elements more fun and interesting. Games get fucking boring after a while, even half-life.

I used to know a website that would let you download replacements for almost all of the models, and they were pretty damn good replacements, too. Basically, for HL1 (not counting the expansions) he extracted all of the models from the PS2 version (which were apparently higher poly than the HD pack) and made them look better.
