I've just finished half-Life 1 for the first time and...

Thanks for the Blue Shift one.
I’m almost finishing OpForce with Redux

Do either require the original expansion, or are they standalone mods?
EDIT: Never mind, they do.

The first time you play the HL1 games should be without enhancement mods, so you can play it the way Valve originally intended.

They require the games to be installed.
I have a tiny question. Several times, in Opposing Force, there was a bright orb of glowing light that was showing me where to go. What the heck is that?

I’ve finished Opposing Forces(kinda short, but good) and now I’m playing Blue Shift. There’s one thing that I found funny throughout the game. “Don’t do that” actually means “Do that if you want to pass the level”. For example, right now I’m in the sewers and the sign near the elevator says: “Keep explosive material out of canal”. Of course, there was a big “Explosive” crate near he elevator and the canal was right below me. What a coincidence. In OpFor I remember that there was some kind of tube with flames coming from it if I pushed a button. And near the tube I could read “Don’t push explosives material in front of the fire whatever”… and near the tube an explosive crate.
Weird.

Sorry for the triple post.
I’ve finished Blue Shift. Really short but I guess it’s the only game in the series(untill now) which had a happy ending.
It was an awesome experience to play Half Life 1 + Expansions and as I’m writing I’m installing Half Life 2.

Edit: You were talking about a proper mod for HL2. Looks proper to me:

It has a few positives about it, but overall its just crap. HL2 is much better without it.

Yeah, don’t install Fakefactory’s crap. At least play HL2 Vanilla once. Fakefactory completely destroys the game, with a movie soundtrack, ugly characters, and bad gameplay changes.
Vanilla HL2 is much better, and it’s the real experience you want to play after HL1 + Expansions.

Then I’ll play HL2, Ep1&Ep2 Vanilla and then with mods
Thanks for the advices.

No problem. If you have Ep1, might I suggest playing Minerva once you’re done the episodes? Adam Foster, the guy who made it, now works at Valve as a result.

Yea, I have all the Valve games.

There’s Opposing Force Redux; too lazy to dig up a link, just google it

…You do realize that implies G-Man is 7 years old, right?

Dude, I finished both games by now(opfor and blue shift).
And who’s about 7?

Half-Life 2 SMOD
Fucking brilliant Mod for Half-life 2 (coming soon for the Episodes) that brings a Fuckton of new stuff to Half-Life 2
New Weapons
New NPCs
New events

Sure, its a bit harder than Vanilla Half-Life 2 but ,damn, its fun
EDIT
“About 7” is a Black Mesa Forums Inside joke.

As far as I know, HL2 still has bugs and incomplete HDR and shit since the update, and this mod purports to fix all of that (HL2 fully on Orange Box engine, as on the Xbox 360 version).

“About 7” is just a stupid meme that floats around this forum. Any thread that mentions it you can pretty much write off as a load of crap.

But I have the Orange Box. This means I don’t have to put the mod?
Also, I encounter a problem. Sometimes, the game simply freezes at “Loading”. Sometimes it happens right when I enter the game and select a save to load(it has like 4 more white squares until the bar it’s complete but it never completely loads), either when I quickload several times or when the game loads another part of the world.
Kinda annoying.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
