I’d get something better, but remember this is a gift. I really don’t have a choice.
Those two 8800GT cars should be fine so long as you don’t break the 2560*1600 resolution.
Make sure you use them to do some folding!
It’s for a good cause, The UnitedGerbilNation on team 2630 could sure use your help.
No where near that high; I never got over around 120 fps in Half-Life 2 with my 9800 GTX + (with my dual core processor). I have a friend with an i7 and a 9800 GTX + and he does not get that high.
23.937 fps to be precise.
And, “25th frame” trick was not not called “25th” by some random decision xD
Anyway, that’s all theories and speculations, nothing more, as no one yet discovered the capability of the human eye to capture frames. And 24fps being the most popular (in video games’ case).
I got the video card. Love it.
You are right, but you are still talking out your ass.
in source games two 8800GT cards in SLi will decimate a single 9800GTX+ in source games.
You might be able to hit those numbers without AA, or AF, but with the goodies turned on you’ll be CPU limited below 200 easily unless you’ve got one of the more expensive Corei7 processors.
Don’t make me pull out charts in this biatch.
A single 8800GTX can get around 70fps for me. I’ll be suprised if your can practically triple that with only 2 8800GT’s.
You don’t read very well do you?
You’re unlucky, with my new video card I get over 200 FPS on games like that with maxed out settings.
There’s your problem.
IIRC the 9800GTX was VERY slow and the 9800GTX+ didn’t do much either.
Sorry if this is wrong, but I remember some benchmarking somewhere…
EDIT:
I found the review of the fastest 9800GTX+ at the time of writing the article, and the 4850 was faster and cheaper at 1920x1080.
What is this ‘folding’ you guys speak of? My searches led me to this Folding@home thing… is this it or something else?
I do speak of folding@home.
Using your computers downtime for a good cause.
I’m an avid supporter.
It’s Folding@Home, yes.
EDIT: ninja’d
does folding@home support multicore now?
IIRC, you can run 1 client per-core…
I don’t really remember
I’m a total Radeon junkie, always have been, but recently my card bit the big one and a bit strapped for cash I picked up the Nvidia9500GT for 'round $60 on Tigerdirect - I couldn’t be happier. It runs anything I need it to run on nearly full specs, sans Fallout which is understandable, and it’s the perfect placeholder until I build my new gaming rig. Props to Nvidia for inexpensive cards with decent graphic output; it’s totally going in my Mythbuntu box when all is said and done.
I would have gotten a 4670 which is far superior for the same price. usually about double the FPS for the same price.
Most I see are for $99 and up, and those’re knockoffs like the Sapphires (which tend to explode on me, sans Diamond) and at the time as I decided to pay off my first year of college loans in one lump sum I was, quite literally, broke. Went with the cheapest I could find with a decent power scale.
What is this… mystical Linux you speak of?
At least you should have good driver support for this mystical thing.
I find the Radeon HD 46-- to be overpriced for the amount of graphics processing power you get, but I think it’s mainly due to UK pricing that means that you can get the 4850 for a few pounds more
