I'm confused by all the complaining.

No sense creating a stir? Say what? Why the hell not, plenty of people are already disappointed by the lack of updates and/or time its taking to release this mod, what harm are updates going to bring? If anything, hype and updates are your best bet to get the most out of your community and potential players/subscribers/followers etc. If you are where you say you are with mod progress, then now would be the time to up the hype and start getting as big a following as you can, that of which takes time, especially with a huge mod such as this, but the potential for exposure is amazing.
People are losing faith in this mod, and that info comes from a scope of people, even some i know personally. Im not saying there isnt a huge interest in the development, because there certainly is, but there is a general feeling of being let down, because of the lack of (apparent) updates.
All im saying is that keeping people informed is not only in our best interest (and for some, their only), its in yours.
To release info in the weeks coming to your mod just shows you are relying on the immediate crowd that follows this mod. And although i cant blame you for it, since it is quite a bit of people, imagine the scope of followers if this mod campaigned a month or even two before it was released.

/cue flaming for opinion in three, two…

Okay, for all the complainers, I’ll tell you something that should’ve been completely self-evident to the point of obviousness:

BLACK MESA IS STILL ALIVE.[/SIZE]

There. That should hold them for about a couple hours…

…that hurt my ears.

Thanks! I may have read that at some point in time, but it was probably LONG, LONG ago

And my eyes.

“prove it” they’ll say.

That’s kinda what we’ve been talking about in this thread. You kinda can’t.

We know the mod is alive. Everyone here with sense does. It’s just that it looks quite dead to anyone who glances or even looks close at it.

it kinda stands to reason that they wouldnt be throwing money to keep up a website for a dead mod, but hey, most people dont really use their brains

Now THAT at least is an argument. I just can’t figure out whether I agree with it or not. :stuck_out_tongue: It kinda feels that there should be a way to let the people feel the “pulse” of the project without kicking up hype. To somehow give the message “yes, we’re still working on it, and yes, we still don’t know when it’s going to be ready”. And I don’t mean a message on the forum, or any other single static sign which might as well have been put up 5 years ago. But I cannot imagine what it could be…

It kinda stands to reason that a project driven 100% by unpaid volunteers would have also found a free web hosting, such as a server owned/maintained by one of the said volunteers. And in this case the website could persist years after the project went dead, because just like there wouldn’t be anyone to care to update it, there also wouldn’t be anyone to care to take it down. I’ve seen it happen on dead projects countless times. But you’re right - most people don’t user their brains.

Not gonna flame here, and not really going to address the other things you said since they’ve been addressed about a gazillion times before. however you have brought up an interesting fact here that few people have really actually touched upon. So bravo there for opening up something new for me to say in this thread… which I’ve commented myself nearly to death on (seriously, I’ve got strep throat because of this thread, I’m convinced that this very thread is the reason I’ve got strep throat right now.)

The devs don’t really need to campaign for a month or two prior to release. there are people checking these forums constantly that never ever post or even register. Once the announcement of the release is made, alot more people that you’re aware of are going to know that it’s about to be released. And then what are those people going to do? What does anybody do on the internet? They are going to tell their friends on facebook and myspace and twitter and whatever else. They are going to other forums they frequent and make topics about the impending release of this project (I hesitate to call it a “mod” at this point.) this is going to happen like wildfire, thousands of people are going to spread the news across the net within a matter of minutes and that’s going to bring even more people in to see what’s going on. Word of Mouth is a powerful tool of advertisement. I’ll give you a good example. one of my favorite authors, Terry Goodkind, does over 80% of his advertisement by simply making a post on facebook, or by updating his website, and lets his fans do the rest. it’s efficient and highly effective. And don’t think that the devs won’t do some advertisement during the couple of weeks between the announcement and the release. they’ll likely update the ModDB page at that point, possibly even update their twitter page. Don’t underestimate how people will spread the news. it won’t be but a few days before nearly anyone who has ever heard of this project will know that it’s about to be released.

I hope that lessens the anxiousness that you feel about what the devs are doing. i’m sure they are thinking the same as me on this matter. Word of Mouth will make up the largest portion of their advertisement, and it will be ludicrously effective. Trust me on this, I’ve seen it in action way too many times.

You do realise what you have just done…If any devs change anything every active member of the forum will ejaculate rainbows. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, every active gargantua and agrunt might.

That’s me!

I’d ejaculate a double rainbow, then ponder it’s meaning.

Just put himself into a corner he did. I can understand wanting to avoid hype unecessarily. Starts with the hypes, then the demands, then goes to disappointment because the game didn’t live up to expectations, then whining that the devs should fix it, and it all becomes a big mess. Best to lay low, keep quiet, and when release date finally comes, throw it in like a piece of meat to ravenous wolves, and run like hell the other way hoping one doesn’t bite at your ass.

That explains why media wasn’t being posted on YouTube anymore. To tell you the truth, that was enough to tide me over.

Course, I don’t put all my hopes and dreams into this one mod. When it’s out, it’s out, and then I’ll be happy, but it’s not like it’s going to make my life complete.

I have many other games to play – oooh, Portal 2 is out – so when it’s released it’ll be added to the docket like everything else.

I think the only thing that really irritates me about the mod not being released yet is that I’ve deliberately not played HL2 or the episodes so that I can blitz the entire HL series in one fell-swoop. From BM to HL2:Ep2.

But, I have a life / too much work / drink too much / additional generic this forum isn’t my life statement / etc. and I fully get that these things take a longer time than many would expect.

Btw, anyone seeing this as a nooby complaint hasn’t seen that I’ve been ‘advising’ alot of other new members who keep posting the same threads over and over.

Your sig is fucking awesome.

yeeees, justin bieber is soooo cool~

Exactly what I’m doing except I played HL2… I purposely haven’t played the the episodes OR the two portals so i can play everything through. Yea I waited…and still am. But I dont think im all that weird considering this is my favorite videogame series ever. But ya…the release of BM is holding me back a bit…I’m not going to go back to the original HL, as much as I loved it, I cant bare the graphics these days.
