I'm confused by all the complaining.

nahhh no excuse bro too many cheese doritos imo

I actually agree with Vilx- It can’t be too difficult to replace the twitter feed with a wiki feed.

OK, here’s one. Has anyone ever seen anything regarding Xen? Concept art perhaps? ANYTHING? :frowning:

If you actually read the so-called “out of date wiki” you would know that the devs have said that they’re keeping their mouths shut about everything starting from Xen to the end of the game.

Note about the wiki - it could be that I’m the only one with such sentiments, but when I first went out looking for information about the project, wiki was the last thing I checked, almost as an afterthought. The reason was that I see wikis as the place where the community writes its stuff, not the owners of the site. It’s a place for community gathered knowledge, not official information.

But, as I said, maybe I’m being weird about this - after all, there’s nothing to formally reduce a wiki to such status.

He’s not saying he thinks it’s dead, he’s saying he understands how people who just look at the easy to find shit would think it’s dead.

no shit

That sums it up pretty well, yes.

wah yoo alwais lookin fur confrontashins mang

i was just saying
yes i know im not retarded

with fewer words

Gona butt in here.

I basically agree with Vilx completely. But I’ve been doing some thinking while reading this current debate.

You go to almost any alive mod home page and the dev’s priority is almost always to keep the community informed…to keep them interested…so that when the mod is released, they actually have a community to download the game!

With BM however, they know full well that regardless of how long they leave updates, due to the nature of what they are trying to recreate, the gaming community will literally explode 5 minutes after release.

Personally I feel that this kinda…dare I say it…“well everyone will download it anyway” attitude is something I fail to see the advantage off. I know that Ram and various others have said that they have tried to please everyone and that has failed. But actually I don’t think it has. They are blessed with a massively active forum, one which other mods would die for. Sure it has trolls and shit, but who really cares right!?

As a regular browser, (but not so regular poster) I feel a little let down. I fully understand the commitment/talent and skill which has and still is going into BM, but surely a little token gesture to the home page…just one little link…so that anyone can see…this. mod. is. not. dead.

Lastly, keep up the good work!

look it’s pretty simple, keeping the occasional visitor that doesnt bother looking around a bit is effort > gain

the webmaster guy (hubi) also has other things to do, and hes not directly involved with the mod, so once again, effort > gain, until he has one of his moods where he changes a few things

@ Bur:
That’s true but that doesn’t change the fact that, to the outside world the mod might seem to be dead or close to. I can’t blame the people who casually check the mainpage to think that.

Nothing’s going to ever be done about it, whatever we suggest.
As bur said, they don’t actually care to do the effort anymore. I think there would be gain though. Hell, we forumers were all once casually checking the mainpage.

Since the webmaster is also unpaid voluntary (is this right? I couldn’t find confirmation), perhaps it would also be possible for me to volunteer to help with the webpage? Being a web programmer myself I see a few things I could improve.

I think you need to contact Hubi for that.

OK.

Shoot I cant see what an improved home page would hurt. I suggested taking the link for the twitter feed off a while ago. I’m not saying that Hubi will welcome your help but I don’t see why not since he nor you would be privy to any undisclosed information. Also I would love to see the improvements you could bring.

Although I’m sure your intentions are good Vilx, I imagine the dev team wouldn’t be overly keen on having a brand new face having any level of control over the website at all. I think you might be 5 years too late on that front!

But I still don’t see why they wouldn’t want to keep the main page updated?! Am I missing something here?

Ever consider that the reason Black Mesa has such an active forums is because people can’t just roflpounce the home page and then fag off?

And from what you described, that’s all, if not more than you even need.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
