If you were Valve, how would you announce and release HL2:ep3?

Here is what I would do:

Step 1: completely finish the game in silence

Step 2: make a teaser trailer simply stating that “Lamarr will be returning.”

Step 3: set the internal release date for a week after E3

Step 4: at E3, make your whole appearance there to show off DOTA 2

Step 5: at the end of E3, casually announce Ep3 is coming out next week

Step 6: watch the ensuing chaos

Step 7: release it a day late

Step 8: success!!!

Whats your ideas?

I would do everything you said EXCEPT:

Release it a day late.

Instead, I would casually announce that it will be released at the end of the day, pick up my bag, and stroll off stage as people fight to get to the parking lot outside.

I would announce it so hard the very foundation of the earth’s core would shake

If I were Valve I would not announce it at all and simply include it with Portal 2 free of charge and let it be a surprise.

I would drop the HL franchise and never say a word about it. It would be troll-tastic.

sidescroller

On April 1st. On the second page of the Featured PC Games list on the Steam Store.

One person becoming Valve?

Nonsense.

It’s a corporation, not a sole proprietorship.

I would only make a one copy of it and release it 2034

How does one ‘become’ Valve?

More along the lines of becoming Gabe Newell, I think.
I would work on it in secret, finish it (as a full length game with loads of new content/engine features) then release it the day after it’s officially announced.

ARG

I would have released it two years ago, instead of delaying it for no reason at all just to spite the gamers that are rightfully entitled to anything Valve does.

I would make it completely awesome and perfect but never have any build-up or publicity about it, release it as a non-retail steam exclusive or online downloadable, and see how long it takes for people to realize it exists.

I would shine a giant Lambda logo onto the night sky via searchlight in every major city. True fans would know what it meant.

With BEES. Hundreds of thousands of BEES.

BEES?!

covered in beeeeees

That sounds suspiciously like an ARG I once listened to. . (i<3beez)

If I was valve I would lay obvious hints all over the internet that no one took seriously, and then just dropped it on Steam randomly a month after portal 2.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
