Ideas for a CSS map

I am going to map, and I need ideas. It should not too generic. Also should have bit of indoors and outdoors. All ideas will be appreciated.

Do people actually play CSS? :stuck_out_tongue:

But really, my favorite part of mapping has always been brainstorming, sketching, and getting really detailed layouts down on paper; actually building the map is just tedious. Why would you relegate the best bit to us?

Really? I’ve always found the most fun part of making maps the actual construction portion, I just loved putting brushes together to make cool layouts and pushing whatever engine i am using by figuring out creative ways to make traps out of simple doors or trains (talking Q1 there)

Although i do love planning them too, I’m kind of a mapping enthusiast

Ideas:

For your map, you should make CTs start outside the front of the building, and the T’s inside where they can look down and shoot, maybe even have them on the roof.

When you go in there should be an elevator that goes up the building for CTs that the T’s can destroy, and if they do you plummet to your death and have to climb the ladder instead, maybe add a stairwell (though nobody likes stairs) and a vent system that all lead up to the top to give the CT’s multiple options to reach the hosties.

If the T’s destroy the elevator, then the CT’s have to use one of the stairwells to bring the hosties back down.

And you should definitely have at least one room with a destructible floor to change it up from other maps.

And some dinosaurs.

Because I am an uncreative, lazy, stupid, useless, lazy, unconstructive, lazy, and tired bastard.

Your map idea sounds very unbalanced.

OFC dinosaurs are a must. I will not commit the same mistake MW3 has committed.

How about an abandoned cold war missile base. It takes place underground, and maybe the bomb room is a missile silo with the surface doors half open, exposing sunlight. You would have to research what exactly goes into a complex like this, but I think it could turn out pretty cool.

Sounds awesome. Definetly a map i would try.

I have no idea what sorts of settings CSS maps have already, because I’ve never really played one. I know there was a map that I downloaded for use in a gmod comic (when I was in to that) that was set in a church. Churches or temples are pretty interesting settings. Is there a map that takes place in some suburban cul-de-sac? That might be interesting too.

I’m regularly looking on GameBanana.com for interesting maps (I don’t download them, just look at the screenshots) and I haven’t seen much suburban maps yet, if you’re going to put real effort into your map it might turn out well. I hate when people make maps that aren’t even half finished or have a very low amount of detail, I like realistic maps with good lighting and much detail.

I once made a map (long lost) which took place in a run down mansion being used as a terrorist hideout. Set in Spain I believe. The map was a night time/raining map, water and filth were the two biggest elements. As the counter-terrorists you had to breach the house, (if I recall correctly I had a main entrance, which was a ballsy approach, a winery entrance, and a sewer entrance that sort of cut into the winery) and once inside the house it was an all out brawl. I might be interested in re-making this… I had a lot of fun doing it.

Try something based on the middle-east, pretty sure that’s never been done before.

OH OH and even though its in the middle east make it so you’re fighting Russians because everyone knows terrorists are pussies and we need a real war!

Except THE most played maps on CSS, de_dust and de_dust 2.

that’s the joke

Imminent CT victory, anyone?

try somthing that takes place in west hollywood

How about a cave in Afganistan with hostages? Or the slums in Brazil? Or a temple in the jungle? Airport or inside an Airplane? The white house? A bank? (anything thats terrorists think is a good target).

Just re-watch any action movie or tv series and just make it from there. I think the tv show ‘24’ would also have some goodies for you.

I remember some maps would have traps, that was fun

Alcrataz island, outlining the plot in The Rock? (lovely movie btw)

Sounds like cs_estate that proliferated quite a bit in the original CS, and then it made its way to Source. I have a couple versions in CS:Source alone.

It’s exactly as you’ve described. Either way, someone beat you to it.

Make mp_nuketown from Blops

I’d say make a Minecraft map, but it looks like a zm_minecraft has been done already. Though it would be a great start to learn the basics of texture mapping and layout.

In fact, you could build it in Minecraft first, and then take that into Hammer by emulating what you designed in-game.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
