I guess I have to be the one to make the Halo 4 thread again.

Just played through Spartan Ops.

Um. Well what can I say… it’s far from the best feature of the game. The missions are a lot more straightforward and linear than the campaign. They lack a good amount of depth, and they don’t form much of a coherent story… yet. The CG video episode was pretty amazing though.

But they’re still fun somehow. If 343 wanted to give about an hour or so of mindless random miscellaneous episodic fun each week, then it seems like they’re succeeding. If they keep it up, Halo 4 has the potential attain a ridiculously high value even months after launch.

So…should I read Glasslands before playing?

Well, the campaign sure was good. I still didn’t care about the story much, but they really made an effort to keep the pacing fresh and the combat is as good as the series has ever been.

Also, while the Prometheans were a lot of fun to fight, I wish they’d done a little more with them. But still, overall, I’m really happy with the game.

Yes.

IMO Halo 4’s story isn’t very player-friendly unless you are already familiar with the lore. Even now, there are a couple of WTF plot points that I’m still trying to figure out. I plan to re-play the campaign to figure it all out eventually.

You mean you can’t even understand the plot without heavy familiarity with the backstory?

I was tired when I got to the plot-thick moments, so maybe that had something to do with it.

The plot is simple and straightforward enough that you will be able to understand it overall, but there are some things that will make you go “wait, what…?” if you think about them too much… unless you are familiar with the extended lore.

The major fault of the campaign story is that it tried to squeeze way too many things into the story in such a short amount of time. There wasn’t enough time to explain a lot of things.

If you only play the games and nothing else, you might expect to be at least slightly confused at a few points.

As a point of reference, I’ve read everything but Glasslands and The Thursday War.

Then as long as you understand that the Covies you fight are splinter remnants that oppose the Arbiter, you should be fine.

BahamutBBob

The game is decent so far, haven’t done any war games yet, though.

And holy balls that bloom is overdone.

Let me just say

OOOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

(please read in a very breathy voice)

Lord of Admirals: Forthenco

the Battle of Charum Hakkor

its wierd how the terminals dont display the precursor artifacts on Charum Hakkor (like the unbending filaments or orbital arches)
because from what i read, the orbital arches were supposed to “connect entire star systems and planets” so i am assuming there is supposed to be some kind of giant mechanical structure/highway impaled into the planet(s)

i also read that the “perfect” women to humans would resemble the librarian (obviously because of the geas she imprinted into them so that they would, by nature, “reconize” a similarity to librarian)

got it and beat it…

Spartan ops episodes are getting really fucking interesting.

When we have to start paying for seasons, I may have to oblige.
