If you have an internet connection:
Use steam.
(If you want a CD of Half-Life, you can still buy Half-Life1 Anthology in stores)
You’ll have a happier half-life experiance with the steam version.
If you don’t have an internet connection:
Find an original WON game CD on ebay (Will be single player only).
All the hatred for steam should be died out by now, if you have a problem with steam then you’re the one with the problem, not the software. I actually support steam, most people with a computer and play games have an internet connection, so there is no excuse for not liking steam. You can say they have the customer by the balls, but what does that really mean these days? It’s Valve’s platform and the companies’ that sign up to steam’s games, so they still have their side of the game aswell as the customer. One example is updates are often compulsary on steam.
Steam community is awesome in my opinion, it’s like my Facebook in a way. Brilliant stuff if you actually have friends.
I got steam with the HL1 anthology, i didn’t understand what it was back then so just imagined it as a place where all my HL1 games were, then I got orange box and fell inlove with the steam community and it’s just brilliant.
I think all PC games should have an in-store CD release and a Steam release to be honest.
