How you found Black Mesa

It’s funny, I don’t really remember how I found the mod. I think I was looking for info about HL:S, and ended up reading an article that mentioned BMS. But this was a few years ago, and it didn’t really strike me as anything awesome at the time. A while went by, and I think I accidentally stumbled on it a second time a little while before the trailer came out. And I’ve been patiently waiting ever since!

I can’t remember either. I feel like I’ve always just known about it, somewhere in my subconscious. Since I’ve joined the board though, I feel a lot more aware of its existence though (duh).

I Yahoo searched for something to the effect of “Half-Life 1 Remake mod” back in 2006. I had just finished 2, and thought to myself, “Black Mesa would be so cool if it had had these graphics.” I had just gotten into looking for mods, and I was wondering if anyone with some mapping skills was working on something to that effect. At the time I kind of doubted it, but I was rewarded spectacularly!

I seriously can’t remember, it was too long ago.

Okay so there is this golf club called Black mesa https://www.blackmesagolfclub.com/
and while searching for that it lead me to this place.

I Stumbled it.

how did i find it? terrible

First I went looking for free downloads of Half-life 1 since I’ve never played it and only played Half-life 2 Episode 1 and 2 and portal. So I was trying to find a free version (ie. not a torrent but a official free version with no legal penalties involved.)

Then I started to look for remake mods or mods in general.

I found it as a result in looking for mods that are free and only require the Source SDK rather than just Half-Life 2.

And after much looking I decernment I learned that from all the mods that were being made this was by far the most indepth mod. It could be said that this is basically a remake with modern tech, or a special edition release. Or even a full blown videogame that lets you play Half-life for free.

So with that in mind I’ve never played half-life original so I’m a game spectator hoping to see a really great game remade for us newbies to the field of Half-life.

Keep up the great work, once again. And as always I would like to convey my utmost respect to everyone here in the mod community. (ie. no flaming or cussing from me but honor and respect.)

Just being funny is it Raminator, Cameron or Summer Glau that we are talking about? LOL

I found out about Black Mesa almost 2 years ago now.
My memory is vague but I think I found it in a magazine.

Found this mod after looking for a Actual remake of the Half-life game. I’m one of the few who bought the special edition of HL2 not knowing the HL1 game wasn’t a ‘remake’ version but a ‘reboxed’, could have saved me $20 dollars.

A few minutes searching on the internet and I’m not sure what place informed me of this mod but I’m glad I found it. That was like… in 04/05 or something, actually have no idea how long I’ve periodically checked this site to see how far along they were coming. Its been awhile.

So, 5 years later I’m finally on the verge of getting what I thought I paid for in the first place.

Thank you Black Mesa Source team.

An article in the swedish PCGamer magazine, ages ago

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
