How you found Black Mesa

I heard/saw BM on youtube sometime in 2008 …

visited planethaflife, saw media, came.

It was back in 2005. I played Half-Life 2, read up on some backstory, about Half-Life 1. Was linked to Black Mesa as a remake of HL1 in the source engine. Was somewhat sceptical without reading much, later I came to the website after seeing an impressive screenshot on the HL2 forums at GameFAQS, saw a few screens of some nicely high-detail weapon models and environments. Whistled in an impressed fashion, created an account to dabble in the forums for a bit (but it seemed back in those days before the crash that the website was flooded with people saying the mod is gonna suck/is impossible, or pestering for it to come out already)… lost interest pretty quickly (I forget my old accounts name. I assume it went with the server crash anyway)

Then I saw the trailer with the different levels, checked the website again. Put it aside in my mind. Then the most recent trailer came along… I exclaimed a few 'wow’s… spent a few afternoons reading through the wiki. I started paying attention to updates more.

Then around the tail end of 2009 when the mod was unsurprisingly delayed, I started checking out the website and youtube channel more extensively. Came back to the forums and read through a few topics, saw that it was no longer the complete whirlwind of trolling I remembered, that trolls were more like community pets here… kept for a bit for entertainment before being put out of their misery once they started to become too diseased.

This community looked like the place to be. And with the upcoming release of Black Mesa I wanted to join in on the fun before the hammer fell, BM was released and the regular community dissappated and went their separate ways as the influx of the raving lunatics from the wider gaming community flood the forums in an unstoppable tide of brain-farts.

I saw a topic on the upcoming PC Powerplay article, as a frequent purchaser of PCPP it got my interest. Saw the contents of the topic. Saw a point to be made. Thus, I created an account, made my post. I stuck around, making valid but long-winded posts which nobody pays attention to ever since :3

I heard about it on the Sven Co-op forums when someone suggested that the BM team and the SC2 team should join together (and have coop babies or something). It was promptly shot down, I believe.
Either way, SC2 has about as much likelihood of seeing the light of day as DNF :frowning:

My attorney and I were on our way to Las Vegas but took a wrong turn and ended up at the center nerve of all things, that place where the source wave crested and left a water mark. With the right eyes you can still see what they dreamed but never could finish;

Black Mesa Source.

The dream may go on forever in limbo, release date after release date, but the bad trip will never end.

Oh, you mean 2009 and When it’s done??

I saw a TF2 poop when watching some youtube poops, then I meet valve, then HL2, got obssesed with it, and then I became a Black Mesa fan, well, I also played Portal first and when investigating aobut Aperture Science i found out aobut BM, and i became a fan because , SERIOUSLY, it’s a hell of a story!

I was supposed to be done… :frowning:

when i saw the aperture science website i thought"okay where’s blackmesa?"
i type in black mesa and BOOM! my mind blown"no blackmesa website? BULLSHIT"jk
i love this mod

Thank you for bumping an almost month old thread, with a side of bad grammar.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
