I would upload a huge amount of fake torrents and only one real.
I would send out e-mails to all the Gargantua’s and send them the download link at the price of having them all mass troll threads like this one.
A 2010 news which says that the project is being halt and will and that we are all doomed and a few more pre-release screenshots, In that message one of the letters will contain a secret link to a secret steam page where you can download Black Mesa right in your steam.
I would print the source code on 1x2 post-it’s in binary code.
And leave a few lines out.
With a side of bacon.
Sounds tasty.
I would release it on game magazines only.
Then after you install it, it will ask for a cd-key that is not included on the magazine, neither is available through the magazine’s contacts.
Biggest troll ever.
Day 1:
Step 1: Create a condensed news post with just 4 or so images, maybe a movie/trailer type thing and a bit of relevant text (and maybe some pictures of the BM team?).
Step 2: Make the mod available (http, bt and steam)
Step 3: Send personalized press releases to blogs & gaming sites
Step 4: Update a page with links to all the blogs mentioning BM release (or update the original news post)
Day 2:
Step 5: Send professional looking press release to major mainstream media (ie. bbc, but also news agencies like reuters etc, and try to include other language news agencies like French, Spanish, Indian, Chinese)
Step 6: Keep hitting F5 on major news outlets websites frantically until articles appear
via nano Pigeon…
I would release it with fireworks, F16s flying in the air, and a human sacrifice to the gods of black mesa for releasing the greatest thing ever
As soon as possible.
Baddum-pish.
Tell people it has been delayed till 2011, release it without telling anybody the next day.
You are like the 10th person to say that >_>
so he’s the 11th?
- Ban anyone complaining about the release being delayed.
- Release URL for download on a members only section of the forum.
- Require password to download or install files and only give passwords to members of the forum.
- Release Black Mesa to the world one month later.
Which would probably fix what the devs could not.
On the other hand, a paper letter with binary code of a .WAV file in which BM source code is dictated, character by character, sounds like much more fun.
i would announce it’s release, then when the day came to release it, i’ll say oops nevermind, then spend more months working on it.
I see what you did there. Idiot.
Step one: Finalize project with every member; go through 5-day playtesting period.
Step two: Eliminate any bugs remaining.
Step three: Contact Valve Offices; Speak to Gabe about releasing it on steam.
Step four: Make a news post saying that the mod will be available on the site, and the site only, in three weeks time.
Step five: Send Gabe the finalized project so it can be distributed on steam.
Step six: Get the “Downloads” section back on the top banner. Put mod in downloads section.
Step seven: Have another news post saying “Oh, sorry guys. It seems that we won’t be releasing the mod in three weeks time. [COLOR=‘RoyalBlue’]Sorry for any inconvenience caused.” where final sentence is a link to the mod.
Step eight: Post news and make downloads section accessible at the same time Valve sets it on steam. Enjoy praise from Valve and community.
