How would YOU release Black Mesa?

You gotta love the April 1st idea.

No I don’t.

I do.

I like the Wikileaks idea. That sounds funny.

Wikileaks has enough publicity as it is. There are many more humanitarian projects that could use the publicity. I think they would be glad if someone approached them. As I’ve said before: if 1 % of downloaders would donate 1 $ and we assume 1 Million downloads thats already 10 000 $. Assuming the devs want to do something for charity of course. And even if people would not donate: the publicity never hurts.

Doctors without borders
Nature Conservancy
FINCA
MedShare

all solid organisations.

I can write a list with candidates and then approach them if anyone on the dev team wants that…
Imagine the press labeling: “Developing/Gaming for a better world!”

I don’t see the point in giving the devs money for them to give it to charity. Just give it to charity to begin with :expressionless:

Put it on a USB Drive and throw it into a river…

Or a bathroom, otherwise known as the “Trent Reznor Viral Marketing” method.

…2042, April 2nd.
Someone sent me a bunch of files.
He claimed he found them on his grandfather’s backups from his game modding youth, and wanted me, as a retro-games guru, to take a look.
Among the files was one curiosity - it looked like HL1, the celebrated game of 1999, yet that was so much better than i remembered it. Some long-forgotten mod, i thought.
So i tagged it on the day’s equivalent of the Internet for people to see and try, whatever it was…

And that’s how Black Mesa: Source came to be released at last.

On April 1, quietly add a little line at the bottom of the front page with a link to the download. Wait for people to find it. Laugh as they all dismiss it as an April Fools joke.

1998, heathen

These ideas terrify me.

Released? 1998.
Peak of popularity? 1999.
You disagree?

My chainsword disagrees with your face, heretic.

Release Black Mesa or I shoot the cat.

That’s probably not going to work…

Of coarse t will that plan is fool proof,

I would make BlackMesa.com everyone deffaut web page with an GIANT button that says download

shame that that’s not the correct address

Haters gonna hate.

Seriously though, if I were making the decision, I’d just discreetly add “DOWNLOAD” at the top where it says “HOME COMMUNITY TEAM ABOUT WIKI” and say nothing more.

Would be pretty lulzy if it took people a while to figure it out.

with the obsessive nutjobs that roam this boards, it would take 5 minutes tops.

acade, you just made me lose the game. URRRGGHHHHH!!!

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
