How would YOU release Black Mesa?

Put the Duke Nukem Forever (crap game) music from the opening on with explosions and text saying “OFFICIALLY RELEASED MOTHERFUCKER!!!”

Seriously? IGN is one of the most lenient reviewers out there, they’d give it a 9 just for being a game, GameSpot is the one that will tear into them with no mercy.

If one gives Black Mesa 3 / 10 , than it’s nothing else but a proof that he never played Half-Life.

Those are renders, not in-game screenshots.

This. When rendering something, you got fuckton of time. Normally when rendering something really really high-poly, it takes hours to render. Not in a game. They soften up the details or use LOD (level of detail) to lessen the strain on the processors.

:frowning:

it wasn’t there when I posted

For the last 15 years I’ve always wondered what the point of showing game renders is, in general.
I mean, you KNOW you’ll NEVER encounter them in-game, so why bother. They cannot even be considered concept art.

They are very cool to look at, but you could as well post a (photoshopped) image to receive the same effect from the audience.

It basically creates hype (model renders). And showcases some stuff from the game (ingame renders). Basically rendering makes everything look prettier than it is by using the model’s full potential, like how it reacts to lighting and stuff.

By only showing them how they look in-game (at the highest quality), like we will see them when we play. They are impressive enough.
And I never said or implied anything about easy or not easy, you are the ones deciding what is shown and when.
I only said that I personally have always found it a weird idea that it’s so common in the gaming world to showcase some models as renders instead of like we will actually see them in-game.

In the end, it doesn’t matter how incredibly detailed renders look, if they will never be seen like that while playing, there is not really a point.

Raminator’s point was that the only way to show off some of their models is to show renders, because those models haven’t been put in the game yet.
I.e. they wanted to show off some of their stuff they didn’t have in the game yet.

I just love people still clutching onto the 2009 release. YEAR AND A HALF PASSED. GET OVER IT.

Plus I said ASSETS.

The models and textures themselves. The fact that they’re prerendered doesn’t change the fact that the MODELS and TEXTURES look a lot better than most game assets.

That’s what I meant. Fuck, man.

true, it’s useless to continue the discussion about the missed release date, as we can not change the past

$100 that they wont release it this year eighter.

Very optimistic aren’t ya? :expressionless:

Why would I be?

At the moment there’s nothing to be optimistic about seeing as how we’re still in the ‘when it’s done’ phase, but being negative about it generally doesn’t help matters. It just pisses us off more, and bitching about it on forums only serves to piss off other people. A chain reaction of piss offness of such magnificent proportions that trolls can only DREAM about!

So yeah, negativity is kinda dumb, especially considering you’re bitching about something that even the devs are ashamed of.

I dunno if the devs are ashamed of it but I DO know that the devs wants to release Black Mesa more than those whining about not getting something for free in a timely manner.

Here’s how I would release it:
Put all the files on a USB, put it in Cave Johnson’s basement, and burn his house down with lemons.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
