How Half-Life Changed The World

God, this slimy little piss ant pisses me off.

Hey watch what you say about ants.

wow, swampfox has finally been perma banned… R.I.P. Swampfox56. I suppose it was a little bit because of this thread…

I am a doorbell. Ding dong.

Don’t worry, Swampfox is among us… probably with a new, fake account… ready for more stupid threads

Shit… he IS always watching…

Well marathon is a great game but half-Life was the first game to be completed by only using scripted events, no cutscenes.

Bungie (marathon) and Valve are good publishers because they take effor betwwen their games, AKA: They don’t crap out a game as fast as they can.

That’s because Valve already craps the time of when the game has to get out (Valve times :fffuuu  and does not want to crap the entire game for it. And bungie… well bungie just does a good work…

If I may be so bold, but I believe that it was Quake that changed the FPS world. Prior to Quake, all creatures in FPSes were sprite-based. Quake was the first FPS to use actual models. Half Life used a modified version of the Quake engine, in fact.

actually, back then every id game changed the fps world. prior to wolfenstein 3d there were only side scrolling games. prior to doom there were only wolfenstein 3d clones. prior to quake there were no REAL 3d games.

shoot me if you want but half life didn’t change shit as far as technology goes (except the skybox and some minor tweaks, like prehistoric envioromental mapping). it did have a revolutionary gameplay, however.

except SwampFox got an IP ban so i really dont think so, i know this because of the unofficial official chat thread

EDIT: oops sorry for the thread bump

you guys should go dig 'im up form his grave just to make sure he’s there

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
