How do I know if Source SDK 2007 Base is installed?

I don’t want to download Source SDK 2007 thing from Steam (its about 4 gB, and my internet connection is a slouch).

I’ve Portal 2 installed. Does that mean the this Source SDK is installed too? If yes, once I install Black Mesa, will it work?

I also have Portal 1, HL1, HL2, HL2E1 and HL2E2 but they’re currently not installed.

You need the Source SDK Base installed to run Black Mesa. If you try to run the mod without it you’ll be prompted to install it.

My advice is to download it now, so you’ll be ready when the mod comes out.

Well, yes thats the problem. I know its required but how do I know if its installed? Is the Portal 2 installation sufficient or do I need to download it separately from Steam?

Go to the Tools section in the steam library and check for that.

When in doubt, just download it from Steam.

It should take no more than a minute… for me the download was about 5 seconds.

Hmmm, its not there. Guess I’ll have to install it. Dammit.

I guess that safe, yes. But 5 seconds? Really? Its a 4780 mB download!

Either you download it now or Steam will do it for you when you’ll install BM and still take an awful time to download. It’s up to you.

what? you’re not on google fiber yet? the rest of the world is. 1gb/s :stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously though, the Source SDK Base size depends on how many Orange Box games are installed, it doesn’t care about Portal 2.

You know you have the correct thing installed when you can see this in the “Tools” section of Steam:

When I load this up, it takes me to the Lost Coast and the video stress test/FPS reporting tool.

So here’s my workaround:

  1. I clicked Install Source SDK Base 2007 from Steam and as soon as it prepared the local disk for files (created the actual files and allotted them space), I stopped downloading.

  2. I put my HL2E2 DVD in and copied the files from the DVD (the same files that were created in the Steam Apps folder for installing Source SDK Base 2007).

  3. After overwriting, I restarted Steam and it shows that its now installed. I just have to download about 100 mB more (probably an update).

This worked. Yay! Now I can’t wait for Sep 14.

You know that black mesa source needs all the files from source sdk base 2007. Oh well. Don’t come here to say that “oh my god! Black mesa source is bugged! Errors everywhere!”

Not bad. Props.

You might also try:
right click the SDK base > Properties > Local files > Verify integrity
for extra reassurance.

I know that. If the game won’t run, its most probably a fault with my improvised installation of the SDK. Not a noob, just new to Steam.

I did that. The cache is valid, just fragmented.

defrag that shit

unless it’s on an SSD

Shit’s been defragmented.

Huh. Why is 14th all of a sudden so far away?

I know right. :fffuuu:

Problem solved. Thread closed.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
