How Come in half-life 1 Gold$rc there are no circles in the game

I’ve played through the original at a very slow pace instead of my quicky pace I noticed that nothing is a circle but instead something like a 56 sided shape that makes the player think its circular. Only textures and buttons appear to have circles an those really dont look entirely circular

That is very odd that valve couldnt make circles in the game or is it even enemies arent circles the vorts heads are have alot of sides appearing circular but are not circles.

everythings gotta be made out of triangles in 3d games right. they only have so many depending on how good the computer is like. you dig?

If you’re referring to spheres, which I assume you are, nothing in any game you’ve ever played is perfectly spherical. Its just not possible within the limitations of computing. More modern games have more polygons in their spheres, so the illusion of a sphere is less easily seen-through, but at the time of older games such as Half Life no users had computers capable of that caliber of models, and so less polygons were used so that the game would run better.

Nin. ja. 'd.

Hey kid what do you think a computer does when it’s rendering those frames while you play?

Do you imagine a guy with a bunch of geometry tools drawing really fast? Because in reality it’s just a 3D engine rendering thousands of triangles in each frame and then adding multiple layers of eye candy (textures, lightmaps, normalmaps, vertex shaders, etc) so you get the impression you’re Gordon Freeman, saving the world with a crowbar.

You’re obviously new to gaming.

HOW DID DIS GET HEER i AM NOT GOOD WHIT KOMPUTER

lol, oh wow.

literally execute everyone who is not born with an innate knowledge of how videogames work

@ OP
no shit, Sherlock.
Circles are, by far, one of the most polygon-heavy geometric shapes in existence

To the OP… If you really don’t understand how computerized 3D geometry works, then… short and simple,

whenever you see a rounded object in ANY 3D Computer-generated image, it’s really THIS:

plus an image and a bunch of processing slapped onto it.

Half-Life 1 is pretty old, so it doesn’t like handling the large amounts of triangles used to draw “rounded” shapes, so it fakes it, so to speak.

I didn’t read anything regarding spheres in the original post.

If something wasn’t adequately circular in Half-Life, it will not be so in Black Mesa.

New games are much better at faking rounded objects, we can now render millions of triangles as opposed to thousands back then.

sphere look bit like circle dont u think :stuck_out_tongue:

Triangles are my favorite shape.

I believe the OP was talking about more along the lines of tunnels and such. Which still fall under the same rule.

tarpezoids am best sheps

Nah, if your gonna get into 4 sides shapes i prefer rhombuses.

Kinda funny that the OP also didn’t notice the same trick used in half-life 2. :retard:

Or every other video game ever made.

I wrote a concrete poem about triangles!

I’mma go find it nao… It’s been, like… four years…

No
matter
how you
look at it, or
what is said, do not
let it get into your head.
Three sides, three corners, too,
triangles have the perfect do! Some
triangles look weirder than the rest, but
they all come from the same exact nest. No
matter how you look at it, or what is said, do not
let it get into your head. They are three cornered and
three sided, that is how all triangles can easily be sighted!

That is the best thing I took out of 9th grade English. I’m surprised I still have it!

EDIT: Man! It rhymes less each year…
