EDIT: Better now that it’s at least in the right forum.
Half Life: 8
BS: 7
Op4: 5

Ep2: 10
HL2: 10
Ep1: 8
Ep2: 7
I haven’t fully played HL1, BS or OpFor.
HL: 9
OP: 9
BS: 7
HL2: 10
EP1: 8
EP2: 10
HL1 => 9/10
Op4 => 8/10
BS => 7/10
HL2 => 9/10
Ep1 => 8/10
Ep2 => 8.5/10
HL: 10/10
Op4: 9/10
BS: 4/10
HL2: 11/10
Ep1: 8/10
Ep2: 9/10
EDIT: Now that we’re counting mods:
Minerva: 9.95/10
R&D: 10/10
BM: awesome/10
Half-Life: 6/10
Opposing Force: 9/10
Blue Shift: 8/10
Half-Life 2: 6/10
Episode 1: 5/10
Episode 2: 9/10
I know I’m in the vast minority here, but the original Half-Life, and Half-Life 2 are horrendously overrated, in my opinion.
Your post is bad and you should feel bad… How the fuck can you rate blue shift and opposing force that high if you don’t like the original Half life?I mean op4 and BS are not even half as long, and half as awesome in story than the original Half life Series (and they are not even canon but nuff said :zip !
btw Half life : 10/10
Op4: 8/10
BS: 5/10
Half life 2: 10/10
And the Episodes: 8/10 but just because they are way too short
Activate flame shields!
ITT: a bunch of numbers no-one is going to read.
Your signature image is bad, it hurts my eyes! And how can you rate episode one and episode two the same? Episode two is VASTLY superior!!
Oh wait, these are opinions…
I honestly can’t do a straight numerical rating. Each of them really excels at entirely different objectives.
Half Life set the bar. Op4 and BS are like 2 sides the the whole coin that HL1 was. Opposing Force had a bunch of extra content and nice boss battles, but really killed cannon and I felt it really didn’t capture the “flavor” that made HL1 so enjoyable. Blue Shift felt like it fit into cannon much more smoothly, and I actually enjoyed the fact that I didn’t even have access to the full weapon selection of HL1. The only problem was that it lacked a decent boss battle that made it feel like you really accomplished something.
Half Life 2 raised the bar from HL1. It has literally become the scale by which everything else is compared to. Episode 1 had the problem that the entire story consisted of “run like hell before shit goes down” and you don’t even fully succeed, BUT it took just about all the cool experiences of HL2 and boiled them down into an easily digestible portion; Gravity gun right from the start and Super Gravity gun within 15 - 30 minutes of gameplay, and by the end of the game you take on both a Gunship and a Strider. Episode 2 pretty much threw in everything that Episode 1 had missed including from HL2; drivable vehicles, the Ant Lion Guardian battles, fighting a Chopper, working with the Vortigons, and actually accomplishing something at the end of the game.
so I’m going to go:
HL1 - 9
OP4 - 8
BS - 8
HL2 - 10
E1 - 9
E2 - 9
HL1: 9/10
OP4: 7/10
BS: 6/10
Decay: 7/10 - assuming you have friends
HL2: 9.5/10
EP1: 7/10 - terribly disappointed
EP2: 9.5/10 - happy again!
BMS: 10/10 - Let a man daydream will you?
HL1: 10/10 - Bloody brilliant
OP4: 7/10 - Found it fun, though didn’t really enjoy it too much.
BS: 7/10 - Found it had good design, but no new content.
HL2: 9.5/10 - Very good game, nearly as good as the origional.
EP1: 8/10 - Enjoyed more than most.
EP2: 8.5/10 - Better than EP1, but still not as good as HL2.
Haha, I knew someone’s feelings would get hurt and they’d feel the need to give me shit for posting my thoughts.
Who said I didn’t like Half-Life? Don’t put words in my mouth. Look, in comparison to its expansions, I thought Half-Life was pretty dull overall, and the ending was a huge disappointment. (Luckily it braced me for the equally shitty endings to come.) The “awesome story” didn’t quite capture me in the same way that it (somehow) did the masses; to me it has always seemed like a rather generic Sci-Fi affair.
The expansions, which are considered canon, (at least partially,) were much more interesting to me. I loved the idea of playing as a marine, and a security guard, and seeing the resonance cascade from a different perspective. The set pieces, in general, in both Opposing Force and Blue Shift were much better, in my opinion. And the arsenal of weaponry in Opposing Force was excellent. (Wrench > crowbar.) Opposing Force and Blue Shift might have been shorter than the original Half-Life, but they were a hell of a lot sweeter.
GTFO of my internets.
